Not really a new thread, but somehow I'm no longer a registered member... During my first visit to the Rock, back in '76, the 18" projectile on display at the memorial was identified as being from the IJNS Musashi. I well remember it because I was so impressed by the actual size of the thing. No doubt, over the years the identifying signage on the projectile was lost to humidity and never replaced.

When I was a kid (the mid- to late '70s and into the early '80s) there were hundred and hundreds of shells, many live, mostly 10" and 12", piled along the hillside by South Beach. Among them were at least a dozen 46-cmm shells (roughly 18-inch) left there by the Japanese, no doubt either for the Yamato or the Musashi. Recall that although the Yamato did not participate, she was in the Philippine area during the Battle of Leyte Gulf (where the Musashi was sunk). The shells of Corregidor for these superbattleships may have been stored there by IJN resupply ships, but that is purely speculation on my part.
