Hey Bob....Thanks for posting. I was especially interested in the photo of the Company G, 31st Infantry guys. I had seen this pic quite some back (on this Forum or Vic's Philippine Scout Site) and at the time wondered if this group of guys might be the "rifle team" of the company, battalion or, maybe, even the Regiment. I base this assumption on the fact that the NCO shown with them is a First Sergeant. An ordinary rifle squad would only rate a Buck Sergeant, if memory serves. A "rifle team", representing a larger unit might have a much more Senior NCO as their "honcho". This certainly ain't an Earth shaking question, but just another one of those little details that tend to worry the Hell our of me. Cheers. Postscript....As I have posted several times previously on this Forum, my Nephew's (now estranged) wife's Grandfather served with both Company G and H of the 2nd Battalion of the 31st Infantry (US). If these two goofy kids ever make "peace", I will refer her to this website to view the photo.

This photo was sent to me by Fred Baldassarre of the BBB some time ago. I also have a photo of the officers of the 31st but the rifle squad photo was more interesting. Don't know when the photo was taken but it had to be fairly close to the outbreak. The first battalion of the 31st went to Bataan via Corregidor, the only battalion to do so. While they were waiting on shore for their barge to be loaded with additional supplies, the Japs bombed their barge and they had to go to Bataan empty handed and be resupplied on Bataan and all they had were Springfields. A while back, I sent a copy of "The operations and movement of the 31st Infantry Regiment" Philippine Division 7 Dec 1941 - 9 Apr 1942, to John Lewis which he posted on his site >http://www.west-point.org/family/japanese-pow/Hudson%20Files/Opns%20and%20Mvmt%20of%20the%2031st%20Inf%20Regt%20(Phil%20Div)%207%20Dec%2041%20-%209%20Apr%2042.pdf If you have any interest in it, check it out.

Hey Bob....Good stuff. The Operations Report was excellent. Concise, clear, and easily read. As good a description of the actions, problems, etc of the 31st Infantry as you could want. Methinks, these guys did the best they could and all that you could expect under those trying circumstances. Thanks for posting.
