A newspaper clipping from my grandfather's collection.
The article goes on to say;
"-provided by courtesy of "The Courier Mail" -was rushed to New Guinea by air, and was received in "Guinea Gold" office soon after its publication in Brisbane. It is considered dramatic enough to occupy all this week's pictorial space."

Nice Certificate. They had been prepared for signature by Col. Kinsler, but by the time they were to be issued, Kinsler was dead. Thus, no one has a signed version.

Thanks for the info Registrar.
Ever since I saw the photos of Heritage BN Corregidor 2003 trip, I’ve been wanting to ask some questions. I hope you do not mine. Of course my interest stems from the fact that Paul Turley was on that trip and according to the records, my grandfather served in the same squad. Questions such as, where did he land on field, were he there during “Night of 1000 hours”, etc. Like most of, I guess I’m just looking for any tidbits of information that may help me better understand my grandfather’s experiences on Corregidor or any of his time in the 503rd. Any information you would be willing to share from that visit would be appreciated.
I guess in reality, I may know more than most families. I am very lucky that my grandfather saved the treasures he did and that this forum and website are available to share those treasures with those who can appreciate such items. Perhaps I should give myself a pat on the back for understanding the true value of these items and not letting his memories disappear and of course you and the Heritage Bn. for providing such an outlet.
Thanks,
Todd

This is a favorite picture of mine. I believe it to be a beautiful sunset in New Guinea, perhaps of a lake or inlet. This could even be Lake Sentani. There is a large mountain in the background, it could be part of the Cyclobs Mountains. In the foreground are what appear to be the tops of huts. Off to the right in the middle, are two native canoes.

Hi tmayer,
I doubt this is the official name of it but everyone calls this the “1945 Jump Map” as it was the map given to some of the men who took part in the retaking of the island. I have seen it before but not with the letters and numbers that your map shows. Not much is labelled so the soldiers created their own names for batteries and other locations. I did not know that there was a photo map on the reverse side.
Thanks again for the information you posted.
