Clinton Douglas Miller, 91, of Shelbyville, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Ashford Place Health Campus.
He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Providence, R.I., to Daniel and Vera (Eastwood) Miller. He married Lavanche (Holbrook) Miller on June 19, 1948, and she preceded him in death Feb. 28, 2010.
Survivors include three sons, Paul D. (wife, Lillian) Miller of Las Vegas, Terry D. (wife, Diane) Miller of Fredericksburg, Va. And Kerry T. (wife, Amber) Miller of Shelbyville; a sister, Gwendolyn Miller of Providence, R.I.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; and a sister, Muriel Miller.
Mr. Miller had lived in the Shelbyville area since 1996 after moving from California.
He graduated from high school in Providence and entered the U.S. Army, serving as a first lieutenant during World War II with the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. Clinton was wounded in the Battle of Corrigador and while recuperating at Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas, he met his future wife, Lavanche, who was his nurse.
He worked as an electronic technician for Hughes Aircraft Co. for six years, then worked for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base for 18 years, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Miller was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Disabled American Veterans in California.
Clinton and Lavanche enjoyed attending doll shows around the country. He was a man who could fix just about anything and he enjoyed working on cars. Clinton loved reading his Bible and loved classical and big band music.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until services Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery. Local veterans' organizations will conduct military graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
