In WWII New Guinea, GUINEA GOLD's brief was to present news to all troops "in the field" and to avoid editorial comment. It published for 1320 continuous days, without missing a single edition. The front and back pages concentrated on current world news, including major sporting events. Page 2 was generally devoted to extracts from Australian and US newspapers. Some news was obtained by taking shorthand notes of short-wave radio bulletins from Australia, the U.S. and the B.B.C. At its peak, distribution was 37,000 to US forces and 27,000 to Australian forces, daily. That's 34 million copies in two years. Maximum readership was estimated at 800,000. This SPECIAL retrospective edition was created as my father thought it important enough to keep ten copies in his footlocker once he made it home from his war. He had been assigned to Combat Operations Intelligence Center of MacArthur's HQ, originally in Brisbane, and thereafter to Hollandia, Tacloban and Manila. Along the way he collected several souvenirs, of which these GUINEA GOLD newspapers are a historic highlight. Two editions are being released - the normal print-on-demand edition (available presently only in cheap charlie soft-cover) or SPECIAL EDITION. There is a strictly limited number of SPECIAL EDITIONS available - Ten. Why only ten? The book GUINEA GOLD comprises ten complete image editions of the newspaper. Each of these copies will include one of the original GUINEA GOLD, in all its faded, torn, creased and battered glory, as featured within its pages. It will an ORIGINAL as featured in the publication. For details, see: corregidor.org/exo/books.html

I have seven originals copies of the "GUINEA GOLD" newspaper from 1943 and 1944 in good condition. I want to donate the papers to anyone interested or else they will be placed in the rubbish bin.
