I was aware that there were fairly large numbers of 155mm guns used on Bataan and Corregidor, the GPF model, mostly on steel wheels. However, on my recent trip to the Philippines, Bob Hudson and I visited Mt. Samat and saw what was described as a 155mm howitzer on the grounds of the memorial. It looked just like the 155mm gun except a shorter barrel. I've seen pictures of other 155mm howitzers that were mounted on a field carriage, but this was identical to the "gun" mount as you can see. I hadn't read of any being present in either place. Anyone have any information on 155mm howitzers on Bataan? Picture below.

This is not a howitzer but a M1918 155mm GPF gun with a missing portion of the forward barrel. There were only two (2) 155mm M1918 howitzers in Bataan and both served with the 301st FA (PA).

I wondered if that might be the case. It was pointed just high enough I couldn't tell from standing under it. Other than the shorter barrel, it looked just liked the standard 155mm GPFs I had seen pictures. Thanks for filling me in.

There were two M1917A4 155mm Schneider howitzers assigned to the #01st Artillery. This information recovered from "Bataan Out Last Ditch" by John W. Whitman. These weapons lacked fire control equipment and could be used in direct fire missions. I believe they were assign in I Corps area on Bataan.Mikef884
