I’ve been busy… For the last 6 months, I’ve been building the framework for a “Trooper Database”. The goal is to create a resource for displaying and collecting data on the individual troopers of the 503rd PRCT. There is still a lot to do, but considering I started from a blank page, progress is being made. It hasn’t always been easy. Coding a page to do or look as visualized in your mind can be a daunting task. Some functions are easy; others take weeks to figure out. During these periods of mental anguish, I often feel it will never work. It’s during these times; I look to a message I scribbled on my wall. “Never Give Up!” Below are some sample pics depicting the general layout .

Looks like a good idea to me.

Still crawling along... The more I "play" the more I learn there are better ways of doing things.
Each known trooper will have a "digital file" based on the template below. The file will contain comments, images, stories, etc. All the data will be contained in database. Data will be collected from register users. I hope to have a working site by late next year with some features. If I wait for it to be totally done, the way I envision, it will never be available. Unlike the Government Health Website, I only have a staff of 1 with a budget of $0.00.

Update.
Before I created my first project, I was told to first make it work, then you can make it look pretty. Below are a couple of screens shots of a few pages that I am currently working on. I have yet to apply any real styling to them. I'm in process of getting everything to work the way I intend.
The first page is a entry form. It will allow the administrator to add troopers to the master file. I chose to use dropdown list(s) for most of the fields. This will help in keeping the data consistent. Since we know the unit we are dealing with, most of the answers are finite.
The second form shown is a log that will record all updates made to the database. The entries shown are the result of testing the entry form. This log will show all updates... comments added, stories added, pictures added, etc... this will allow the user see all the latest updates and give them the ability to go straight to that troopers page.

Now that my responsibility as reunion host is over, I've started working again on this project.
Right now I'm working on an interface that will be used by administrators to update/edit the main photo on file for a trooper.
Almost anything is possible, you're only limited by your imagination and skill level (and the skill you can learn)... It's rewarding to take an abstract idea and make it a reality.

It's live! It's actively being developed and actively being tested. Lots of work to do, lots of data to enter. Expect changes.

Finished loading the Templeman Corregidor roster. The database now contains the names of over 2700 men (2786 to be exact).
Along with site development, will now move onto the entering those who died during war, per casualty list in "Three Winds of Death".
Site it best viewed from a desktop or tablet, someday will start working on mobile version.
