Good day to all,
Firstly I would like to thank all concerned for allowing me to join the forum,
I am a retired Captain married to a Filipino, and living in Cagayan De Ore, and spend my time writing my first book, based on my time with the UN in Africa, as a pilot, and prior to that my time with the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards.
I know the above subject has been covered by the group before, but as the years go on more and more information is being released, surrounding the Massacre, but like so many accounts, they need to be verified, once and for all, as I intend to write a book, which will be launched on Kindle, with all proceeds going to the upkeep of Markers and the memory of all that were forced to walk the Bloodiest road in the Philippines.
With living in the Philippines I intend with a small group of specialist to search the River and surrounding areas, and visit the site over a period of two years, or as long as it takes to Uncover all the facts. Any others interested in this project, are most welcome, as we start to plan regular posts will be placed to inform all members.
Please any scrap of information will be most welcome as this will help me to record all facts relating to that day.
Again thank you for supporting my membership to this forum

Good day, Stuart
I second Chadhill's sentiments, welcome aboard and glad you are here.
I like the fact that all your proceeds from your book will go to upkeep of memorials. Good on you, my friend! Considering their neglect, more attention should be given to them. On my next trip to the Philippines ( and only God knows when that will be) I intend to contact Bob Hudson and others and at least donate some time to painting and general upkeep as best we can. This is a moment of history that should NEVER be forgotten. I too have a Filipino wife but alas, am not yet retired there.
So tell me, Stuart, when were you in the Dragoon Guards and what ground did you chew while with them? I know that they have a storied and honorable past from Waterloo to Dunkirk to The Hook in Korea where with my Marines at their flank, the Dukes handed the Chinese their ass in a hand basket. GO GUARDS! Can you help me out here? I am not familiar with the British order of battle, were the Dukes part of the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, or were the Guards part of the Dukes?
If you would like, send me a personal message and I will tell you of my marvelous trip to your homeland and all the history I saw there.
Cheers

Hi Beirutvet Hi Chadhill Thank you for your warm welcome, also Thanks Chadhill for the Information which will come in most handy especially the maps from other members which gives me a really good start. Hi Beirutvet, I served with the regiment from 1983 to 1986 so only a short timer, and served in Germany, and retired from work at 49, last year so very still Gun Ho doing consultancy works and writing. Regarding the Dukes and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards at Hook they formed what was known as the 28th British Commonwealth Brigade in 1951which later was called the 1st Commonwealth Division, where this is made up of all your support elements, like Armour, Infantry, medical, Artillery, and so on. Now a days we call it a Battle Group. On the Hook Battles 1 and 2 and the whole Division was involved with Armour giving support to Ground troops such as for instance on the Hook engagements the 28th British Commonwealth Infantry Brigade, which the Duke of Wellington Regiments were part of, so the regiments were part of the same Division but operated as Battle groups, for operations within that division. I have attached a link which highlights the division make up during the Korean War, which I hope helps en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Commonwealth_Division hook

Just a Quick update on how things are going with the investigation, and as you can imagine trawling through all the documents regarding the massacre, is very time consuming, but one thing is apparent, is that there is a lot of conflict of information, and some based on pure speculation.
The information that I have so far points very strongly at reports from newspapers was over exaggerated on the numbers ranging from 350 to 1000, but by survivor accounts, they point to a much lesser number.
'' Prisoners were subdivided into 3 groups of 150 to 200 per group, hands bound behind them with telephone wire then tied to the ones in front, then marched to the river in single file.
So if we take this into account the number was 450 to 600 so for the insert into the book I intend to list this number of Prisoners as a fact.
I will be raising a Blog for all my investigations as the information of troop movements and days events leading up to the day of the massacre, and again there is a lot of information to show.
I still intend to keep the group involved and updated on findings also intend to put a donation button on the Blog, for the Memorial restoration projects.
Bob will contact you via email for this information so donations can be collected by yourselves.
