Things have certainly changed! Japanese soldiers at Camp Pendleton...interesting in that it demonstrates the traditional Japanese tactics of very disciplined fire control. The late Eugene Sledge mentioned this in his book when they were pinned down by a Japanese light machine gunner on Peleliu. A few select shots at a time does it, often more effectively than spray and pray techniques. I have often mentioned the contrast in the amount of spent American and Japanese small arms ammunition found in the various battlefields of PI. I am sure some of this had to do with the tight supplies of the Japanese, but even in areas where ample amounts were to be had, strict fire control discipline was usually the case.
