I presume that many are aware of the plans to create a new city within the massive area that was Clark Military Reservation. While acknowledging the need of things to change and develop is inevitable, as an buff of the old, I dread that much history is likely to be obliterated.
Much was gone already as when Dan Dizon and I drove around the area a dozen or more years ago. Many locations particularly nearest to Angeles and Dau were unrecognizable to him even back then.
But most of the areas to the north and east were, and I presume still are, undeveloped. I am not sure just where the development areas are to be, but I assume that it will encompass most of these areas. Located to the north and east was the former Japanese Naval airfield (Mabalacat 1 or 2, I cant remember which...) and areas wherein Dan said that many Japanese Army aircraft were placed beneath towering acacia trees. It was also an area used by the 9th Cavalry for training and also the 24th (PS) Field Arty.
I also understand that the local Aeta natives are not happy with some of these plans as it may impact areas in the foothills were they live.
These areas were also the former living quarters for much of the Clark Air Base personnel until the closure.
I know there is already a wealth of information on this site, but I also think it be very worthwhile to do some exploring and recording of the area soon. Again, we could only hope a Karl Welteke quality exploration complete with GPS mapping could be made before it is too late. I myself may be able to come back to PI sometime this year, but I certainly dont have the skills or time needed for such an undertaking!
