What happened to Day 6? It was my day off. There was a marathon on the island. In hindsight I should have taken a few pictures.Day 7, Part 1On this day I wandered around Battery James and Battery Morrison.

Day 7, Part 2To Morrison and beyond! The entrance to the plotting room just before Battery Morrison.Another subpar photo taken without a flash taken right inside the hallway to the plotting room. Looking down a hole in the ground in the hallway. Notice the holes for cables in the side. The room was too dark to photograph, but in the corner there is a shaft leading up the the battery control. Heading towards Battery Morrison the extra barrel is laying on the side of the road.Stairs leading to the walkway over to the top of the battery. The walkway overhead. One room was lit enough by the sun for a quick photo. Both guns were very covered in leaves. Luckily past these shrubs, it opens up so I got a few photos of one of the guns. Here's some pictures of the gun. After I was at Morrison, I walked down into James ravine. Some concrete I believe was used and probably still is being used to direct water. This photo was taken at the same place, but I've tilted my camera down. I wonder why the front face of this is scratched up.Further down the ravine there is a small bunker.Inside the bunker I see what I think is a mount for a gun. This is the front window of the structure. At the guard shack I met a guard. He was very kind and directed me to the bombproof infantry tunnel. The date stamp on the front of the tunnel. The opening is quite small.A vent up from the opening.A Japanese bottle found nearby.Another view of the bottle.Karl has a great post about this tunnel at the mouth of the ravine. I didn't investigate it much. Another trip perhaps.A beautiful sunset along the beach that evening.
A painting of the sunset I did this summer.

Hi Pierce,
Thanks for another great presentation. It must have taken a lot of effort to make your way through such a jungle. Your painting is very good too.

Pierce Great pics! Great trip! Great painting! You for sure have talent. But I am a bit confused about your sunset picture. It appears as though you are on south beach looking at south dock and Caballo island which would mean you are looking east south east. Wouldn't that make your picture a sunrise rather than a sunset? Please orient me on where you were standing and looking so I can get this right in my head. Either way it is a fabulous photo and I wish I was there with you when you took it. You have covered so much of the island in a few days and I look forward to each of your segments. Please keep them coming! PS Here is a sunrise pic I took in 2013, I think you had better luck with atmospherics.

A super presentation and update on the current appearance of these areas today. I recall exploring much of the same about twelve or so years ago, albeit in the dry season. Not much has changed I am happy to say! That "Dai Nippon" beer bottle is a great find and actually very common to come across in various ww2 Pacific battlefields. Dai Nippon (Greater Japan) Brewery was the largest brewer in Japan in the old days and up to 1946. Japanese, being human, often relied on booze to fuel their futile and usually suicidal "Banzai" charges etc. Like every soldier, sailor or airman throughout the world, it was not all about courage or desire to die for country. Such is the real tragedy of war.

Thank you, everyone!
beirutvet, I guess it's not technically a sunset. The sun was more or less behind me, but was still able to paint the sky and clouds purple and red. That's a nice sunrise picture you have there. Where were you when you took it? Somewhere on Topside, it seems.
CB, it's good to hear that this part of the island has more or less stayed the same! I've heard that about the Japanese; it's quite sad indeed. I believe a magazine near Battery Sunset has many broken Japanese bottles as well.
oozlefinch, thanks for the offer, but I actually got it to work after I got back to the U.S. Who knows when my next trip will be, but I'll be prepared!

Pierce
Yes I was on topside, just a few yards east of the eternal flame sculpture. I zoomed in as much as I could, that is why Razor Island looks so close.
