It is with great sorrow to announce that SFC Dan Figuracion passed away on April 3rd, 2017. He was the last member of the platoon that made the US Cavalry's last mounted charge in history, in the town of Morong, Bataan, in January 1942. He was a Bataan veteran, Death March survivor, and guerrilla in WW2.
He served in the US Army from the late 1930's when he joined the 26th Cavalry PS till his retirement in the 1960's. He was an excellent shot and was a member of the army's 6th Advanced Marksmanship Training Unit (AMTU).
In all his years in the army, he was most proud of having been a cavalry man. He attended all events in his cavalry campaign hat with the 26th DUI and yellow hat cord, and walked around with spurs on his shoes.
He never missed a Philippine Scouts Heritage Society reunion and was a much beloved presence, warmth, and smile.
Godspeed Trooper Dan. Rest in peace. We will try to be worthy of your sacrifices.
