Corregidor Visit 2006-08-30 to 09-02, alone
Day One, 30th Aug.
Beautiful day and calm sea; parked at Carmen resort and used their boat. I Stayed at the Rowhouse and walked to Battery Cheney and back. This diary entry was written on the 3rd of June 2011 based on my written notes from that time (Battle of Midway Anniversary tomorrow).
Looked at the post WWI AA gun position above Ramsey ravine, the Butterfly Haven, it had been the Aviary. Walked by Middleside Barracks, on the street side and then continued along the rail line to Battery Way. I also observed the storm damage at Middleside Barracks. Stopped by the Duck Walk Tunnel and walked along the ‘Mile Long Barracks‘.
Walked passed Museum, thru the Pacific War Memorial, by the Light House and passed the ‘F Co.’ HQ (the last west SOQ). Looked for and saw the Emergency fire control station left and right of Battery Cheney. Found Battery West.
Walked the rail line from Battery Cheney to the Topside Parade Ground passed Radio #1 and then back to the Rowhouse.

1st Day Album Description:
In 2006 between the 30th of Aug and 2 Sept. I visited Corregidor again by myself. Even in the rainy season one can catch a dry period and nice weather. On my 1st day I walked from the Rowhouse to Battery Cheney and back. These images are about that walk. The dates on the pictures are wrong, they were shot on the 30th of Aug. 2006!!!!
Note to view the Photobucket album:
When the album opens, click on the first picture or the one you would like to view, then click the icon “i” and that will open the title and description of the image or images.
The pictures are no longer in the proper original order, because Photobucket made the image titles disappear, the album URLs went dead as the result of their constant reorganizations.
So, for this viewing I had to quire a new album URL, copy and paste the image description back from the title box to the description box and if I want to post the image I have to copy each image URL because they are no longer in order.
Here are 10 sample pictures
---------------
30th Aug 2006, the west end of the Radio #1 building.
-------------
30th Aug 2006, the west end, SW corner, of the Radio #1 building. The road at right is still recognizable.
------------
A concrete walkway to the officer quarters, near the hospital from the trolley station near Battery Way.
==========
As usual, I park my car at the Carmen Resort of Cabcaben and proceeded to the North Channel Beach to get the boat.
==========
Back trekking the rail track to Battery Cheney. Seen these things all over the island but never seen them discussed?
=============
Battery Cheney is not on the Daily Visit Tourist Trolley Route, and so does not get the same attention. But I seen it completely cleaned before.
===============
Battery Way, passing it by.
================
Between Battery West and Battery Cheney is this structure but not on the map.
============
Both, the signs to Battery Way and the Duckwalk.
======================
Coming down from Topside to Bottomside one gets this great view, Caballo Island, the ex Fort Hughes.
===================
Emergency fire control station on the island, this one is E II 2.
=====================
Every trolley station looks a little different because of the contour they are built on.
=================
Further towards Battery Cheney is this large concrete pipe, part of drainage?
