I think the Scout on the right in the photo posted by Victor is carrying an M1905 US bayonet in a captured Japanese bayonet scabbard.

Hey 1942....You are probably right. That scabbard sure ain't US Army issue, is it? VIC...The enlarged photo of the group also shows the "main man" to be a Corporal. Until I looked at the enlargement, I hadn't noticed the chevrons on the other Scout's arm. I am telling ya, we are missing all kinds of good stuff by not enlarging some of these pics. Cheers.

And the helmet nets on the two to the left are interesting.
Looking at it again, I think the bayonet may be resting in the leather frog, I guess the scabbard wouldn't fit and he discarded it but wanted a way to hold his bayonet.
