Fort Hughes basketball team A photo that has a scribble on it that says: Where we surrendered May 1942 The date says 1/11/1942, but I'm not sure if they were attacked from sea that they had to fire this battery

Hi Victor,
The first photo's label and their uniforms say 'Fort Hughes' but the back writing says 'Monkey Point'. The only Monkey Point I am aware of is on Fort Mills (Corregidor). Did Fort Hughes have a Monkey Point also?
(Perhaps it did as the Corregidor Monkey Point did not have any rail lines near it)
Hey Victor, when are you coming to Corregidor to explore with us?

The basketball team photo was taken at the Wharf of Fort Hughes. These was no monkey point on Fort Hughes.
The 12" inch DC gun photo is not a 12"inch gun but a 10-inch M1895 gun from Battery Grubbs. I doubt if this was a wartime photo because the gun was firing seaward based on the traverse of the gun. Plus the crew is still wearing the pre-war uniform not the combat fatigues that and steel helmets. The only time this battery was firing against the Japanese was towards Bataan and that was only from April 12 -16, 1942.
FWIW,

hey vic...isnt the photo that supposedly shows monkey point (with the X) actually taken from topside corregidor, looking east and the X is at east point. hooker point is barely visible just to the right of the X. this pic seems to have been taken from the area where the water tanks and lighthouse were located. Malinta hill is just peeking up at the left center. thats the way it looks to me. whatcha think?

Ah yes... they're different pictures I found on ebay. One is from Fort Hughes, the other is a view from topside looking toward monkey point with the X. The other is Battery Grubbs and the date scribbled on it happens to be during the fighting at the Abucay line in Bataan.

Could the picture showing the water tanks and Hooker Point in the background been taken from on the circular lighthouse?
Note the rounded railing in the foreground. Great pictures all..........
The basketball team, so the 5 seated in front in basketball shirts must be the starters? Note the warm ups or uniforms on those in the background, I'd have been a starter for sure so I didn't have to wear those in that heat!

Sorry, I thought the written ‘Monkey Point’ label went with photo #1 but it is actually part of photo #2. I never saw the ‘X’ until okla mentioned it. Phantom and okla, you are correct, the photo was taken from the Spanish Lighthouse looking east. The lighthouse railing can be seen in the photo. The ‘X’ is too far out on the tail so not actually at Monkey Point. You cannot see Monkey Point clearly from that perspective. Here is a photo taken last week of the same view as photo #2. Malinta Hill and Tailside are difficult to see today because of the trees. When comparing the two photos, notice the three water tanks and the patched area at the top of the left side tank. Do you remember seeing four water tanks to the east of the lighthouse in old photos? (note the arrow) The fourth one is still there, just shorter than the surrounding trees.
