drdemented,
Well said. I don't think you will find many on this board who disagree with those comments.

Hey All....It is virtually impossible for some of us to comprehend, but there are those out there who would turn Corregidor (and other battle sites scattered over the world) into latter day Coney Islands in order to make a buck. I suppose there is some rationale that these kinds of activities will held sustain the upkeep of Corregidor, but this stuff is a sacrilege, pure and simple. I'm telling ya, a roller coaster on the topside parade grounds could be in our future. Nothing surprises me any more.

For those who have never seen a Zip line, here are a few photos of one in operation at Tagatay. The Zip line starting point. A near extinct Booby comes in for a landing. As usual, the female Booby is interesting to watch. A set of Boobies hits the first of two orange car tires. Yes, this is the braking system near the end of the line. Seven seconds after the previous photo, the Boobies are stopped, steadied and soon released hopefully unharmed. When I zoomed in I noticed something. Those rusty “quick link” rings are only connected by a couple of threads and the right side one is NOT connected (or broken). Look closely at the previous photo, same thing so I expect it was not connected by staff at the starting end. What about the other side of the cable pulley? I do not think one “quick link” not connected would be a problem but is this an example of the safety standards (or lack of ) employed there? Regarding Corregidor, in my opinion, there is no place for such a thing on a historic WWII battlefield, and yes, Bottomside south was a battlefield. Is the tank that is located near the present day zip line the one that was disabled by a land mine?

Can we send Corregidor Foundation/Sun Cruise lines a formal letter of objection? Not that they will listen but a well crafted letter may hit the spot in some people, who knows.
Maybe a well-respected newspaper columnist can be persuaded to write a disagreeing piece on this.
Just wondering if anyone knows what's been done as measures of objection to the zip line.

Hi Victor,
Unfortunately this zip line was half built before any of us here were aware of it, now it is in use. However you have great suggestions before any further “development”.

Hey Fots/Vic.....This contraption is a travesty. Hopefully, it will "fizzle" ala the casino at the 92nd Garage Area. If there truly are ghosts on the "rock", maybe they will reappear to protest this ridiculous idea. The slide is as out of place on Corregidor as an illegitimate antecedent at a family reunion, methinks.

Not my idea but perhaps if they modify this zip line into something like what paratroopers use for training. They could market it as something to "give someone a token inkling of what it was like for the 503rd to jump into combat."And have the sound of a C47 and combat sounds blaring at the tower before the jump and also at the bottom. Also, instead of zipping down like superman, make it hanging like from a parachute. Just trying to get anything positive out of this to make it a tad acceptable.

BatteryBoy -
What are the liability laws like in the Philippines?
I know that here in California all it would take would be one multi-million dollar wrongful death suit.
Regards,

Head first without a crash hat. Karabiner thread broken. Rounded karabiner edge contact with sharp edge of steel plate of trolley. Smoking allowed on ride.
Shoes obviously removed to reduce the amount of flying debris in case of a crash. Nice afterthought of "flip flop rack" for passenger.

Sharp eyes there willum. Yep, its definitely broken. I never noticed the cigarette either. I can’t find the da*m post now but if I remember correctly, perhaps it was mgk1951 who provided an excellent description of what can be seen in the February 1945 amphibious invasion photo. It really brings this snapshot of history to life. (trucks, tanks, soldiers moving inland from the beach).
