I am starting to sort through piles of photos I usually ignore. Here are some miscellaneous views of Corregidor Island for everyone.
Battery Wheeler gun #2.
Battery Wheeler gun #2.
Some of the Topside memorials.
Warehouse deep in the jungle.
A very heavy piece of shell or bomb shrapnel.
Local fishermen having lunch in one of the Shinyo suicide boat caves.
An example of the many Senior Officer’s Quarters on Topside.
Wall mounted metal cabinets in one of the cliff top command posts.
The smallest of two ferries doing the Manila to Corregidor to Mariveles run.
I was the only passenger going back to Manila one day. Passenger capacity is 150.
Sunset over the 'Points' of Bataan.
I wish this was the largest snake I have ever seen on Corregidor.
Philippine Coast Guard ship EDSA at the South Dock.
At the Japanese Memorial Garden on Tailside.
Banka leaving Corregidor taking a group of tourists back to Bataan.
Swimming Pool in the Mile Long Barracks on Topside.
An example of the thick vines and vegetation that makes a few areas impossible to get through.
Another shot of the same area.
One of the concrete trench lines in Tailside.
A Panama Mount for a 155mm GPF gun.
If you ever wondered what happened to Chucky after his last horror film, I found him washed up on the beach near Infantry Point.
Often I find structures in the middle of nowhere and have no idea what they were used for. It is not labeled on any map.
A view of Carabao Island (Fort Frank) taken just after sunset. The mountains of Cavite are in the background.
The old Spanish Flagpole on Topside.
Aerial view of the Post Hospital.
Last year part of two floors collapsed inside the red circle.
Area where the floors collapsed.
Closer view of the bottom floor collapse.
Two Philippine Navy patrol boats at the Engineer Dock.
Shrapnel damage on top of Battery Cheney. Bataan is straight ahead in this photo so I assume this damage was caused by a low trajectory shell fired from over there.
Here is what a typical off-road trail can look like in the dry season. Watching where you are walking is extra important in this country. Look what is ahead!!!
Close-up view of what is lying ahead on the trail. Python I think. Phantom would have spotted this thing 100 yards away but I am within 12 feet of it before my brain tells my legs to stop.
Battery James gun #1 position.
Scenario ‘A’: Before he leaves, Sgt tells the rookie PFC to paint camouflage on a new hillside bunker. PFC paints leaves and branches on it. Task complete.
As you come down the North Shore Road beside Malinta Hill, Mount Mariveles can be seen in the distance.
Battery Crockett gun #2.
Post Commissary.
Interior floor at the western end of the Commissary. The doors at the end of the floor go into two small cold storage rooms.
It looks like sheets of asbestos on the walls and ceiling. There was a fire in both rooms.
Remnants of the trolley line including a spike.
Inside the Malinta Tunnel South entrance.
Command Posts for Batteries Way and Geary.
Battery Cheney gun #1
Enough wandering around for today. Head down to MacArthur’s Café for a ‘Carlos Special’ and a cold San Miguel Light.
On Bottomside the sunset is obstructed by the western part of Corregidor. Often you can still see some colorful skies if you are on the north side. This photo was taken from the end of Lorcha Dock looking towards Mariveles.
