Hey Fots...Re the Navy radio station located in the Navy tunnel complex...Hell yes, in those days before service branch unification, Lord knows how much duplication of effort and material/equipment. Kinda like "what you can do, I can do better". What a waste of resources in the period before the armed forces were reorganized in 1947 ( ). I have always been under the impression that the Japanese armed forces suffered from the same problem, i,e, jealousy, turf wars, etc. The military mind, at least in those days, suffered the same maladies regardless the country involved, doncha think???

My dad was a radio operator, arriving about May '41.
His last peace time station was Battery Way. We visited Batt Way in 1977. He said there was a parrot that sat in a big tree just south of the radio station. The parrot would mimic (Morse Code) Battery Way call sign, MG8, if I remember correctly. The few letters I have from him listed Ft Mills, and 60th Head Qtrs on the return address and letter head. After the first bombing he moved to a Malinta Hill station.
No letters after Dec 8, '41. The tree and the parrot disappeared too.
