Hey Demether....Hard to believe that these smiling, docile looking guys would cut your throat or stick a bayonet into you and never blink an eye, isn't it. Wonder what that morsel is that the one guy in the lower right corner is consuming? A thick slice of bread? I assume that this man is a prisoner, but maybe he is an Amer/Fil guard. Welcome to the forum.

Hey dmether...I think you are exactly right. Same guys, with the pic taken from a different angle with "Slim" munching on that same piece of bread. I wonder if these "able bodied" Japanese soldiers were among those who were thrown into Nipponese stockades in Manila after being freed upon the surrender of Bataan. It was said that the Japanese troops who occupied the Mariveles/Cabcaben area looked unkindly upon their fellow countrymen found to be prisoners of the American/Filipino forces that weren't seriously wounded. These unfortunates were said to have been shipped to Manila and harshly treated. Do you put any credence into this story???

I've wondered what might have happened to them once they were liberated. I think the Japanese made a distinction between those who surrendered and those who were captured. Either way, I doubt they were well treated.
I bet the front line American troops who survived the war weren't too happy to see a picture of the captured enemy eating better than what they had.
