Mariveles, 2013-02-11 and 18th plus 2010-04-14
Mariveles was not only important because of the USS Canopus became a heroine here, it became the Naval Base after Cavite was given up. The Marines defended it with AA batteries, an air field was established here, the Army used it for many purposes plus most command and logistic traffic to the Bataan West Defense Force was channeled thru Mariveles, many Naval vessels were scuttled or got sunk here. Hospital #1 was moved into an area just above the Zig-Zag Road to Mariveles. The Navy tunnels were often mentioned. Just across the west peninsular is were the Japanese landed at the Longos Kawayan Point and was initially defended by sailors. The Death March started here for most of the Bataan defenders.
For all these reasons Mariveles has attracted me many times. It is also very pictures, it is impressive to look down into the bay low land portion, the harbor and the points and coves. Mariveles is also being developed into a World Class Free Port with many industries and manufacturing plants.
These pictures were shot from the ferry to Corregidor and show the harbor, the coves, the shoreline etc. and were shot from a hill above the Zig-Zag Road. This album has pictures of the new power plant which is almost finished. Some of the pictures are high resolution vista shots. This album also includes images from Mt. Pucot and the points near by.
These are not all my pictures about Mariveles, they are just the latest ones and a few higher resolution ones from 2010.
Here are 93 images in my Multiply account, the pictures have only short titles but you should be able to download them in high resolution from the slideshow mode.
pisailor.multiply.com/photos/album/161/Mariveles-2013-02-11-and-18th-plus-2010-04-14I have also uploaded these same pictures and at the same high resolution into my Photobucket account. But here they don’t have any titles but maybe can be looked at easier at the higher resolution and can be just easily copied at the higher resolution:

Some of these images are almost in panorama format, I wonder how they will upload? But you always can look at the images in one of the albums above.
This is part of the Bataan Freeport area just below the Zig-Zag Road.
This is the Mariveles volcano, left is the Bataan Peak, across the dip is the peak where the Japanese Zero and LT. Earl crashed in their dogfight on the 9th of Feb. 1942.
This shot is from Mt. Pucot, the 3rd cove up is the Barrio Biaan where one could get a boat.
In that green long area, on this side runs the Bataan West Road, where the air field used to be.
This National Highway runs along the Mariveles Harbor shore. The rocks at right are the start of the Rouvia Port where the ferry to Manila and Corregidor (Monday only) leave from.
The Sun Cruises ferry is tied up outboard at the Rouvia Port.
I think, this is a neat picture of the Mariveles shoreline, it was displayed at the ferry waiting area.
This is the Rouvia Port as the ferry is leaving for Corregidor.
This is Caracol Pt. the Caracol Cove is behind it and that is where the USS Canopus was moored to the shore.
At the very left is Caracol Point, the high peak is Gorda Point and right of that is Sisiman Bay
The new power plant, just east of Sisiman Bay is almost finished. It is build with Red China’s help.
The new Mariveles, coal fed power plant, at Aguaguan Point.
This is a good shot how most visitors from the Bataan side come and go, they are referred to as -Walk-ins.
Caracol Point at left and Gorda Point is in front.
Behind those buildings and ships, ashore, was the Navy Section Base, in the slopes at right were the Navy Tunnels and maybe two now are still accessible.
Cochinos Point is at left, the US Coastal Defense had an observation point on it. Those ships in the harbor remind me at the Navy vessels anchored there in WWII.
The Mariveles shoreline. At the left end of the ridgeline in front is where Death March Km Zero is located.
If you were to wait for the ferry (Rouvia Port is at right) to Manila or Corregidor you could wait at that restaurant at left or go across the street, that is a Duty free store.
