I know very little about vehicles of the Philippine campaigns. Having come across some interesting photos of them, I would appreciate any information that could be volunteered. I'm also curious about the "truck cave" that Batteryboy mentioned in the Corregidor Postwar Color Photos thread. Karl, did you say that was near Crockett Ravine?
1. Photo from the 1943 Japanese book "Philippine Expeditionary Force", said to be taken in Dinalupihan. Any ID on the truck? Does the star indicate it was being used, possibly, by Homma? (I've seen a number of photos of Japanese vehicles with a star on the grille).
2. Photo from PEF, somewhere on Bataan. Similar front end to # 1. I know that Toyoda, Nissan and Isuzu made trucks during the war.
3. PEF. Stuck somewhere in Bataan.
4. PEF identifies this as "an enemy truck stuck in a shell crater".
5. PEF
6. PEF. Santa Ana, Davao
7. PEF. Sedans parked on Escolta Avenue, Manila. I think the signs in the windshields mean the cars are under Japanese control.
8. PEF. Same sign in windshield as in # 7. Somewhere in Manila, February 1942.
9. MacArthur's damaged staff car on Corregidor, 1942. Note the three star license plate. Does anyone have information on this car? Is it a Packard? According to Gregory Michno in his book "Death on the Hellships" (p. 258), on 13 December 1944 MacArthur's Packard was loaded onto the Hellship Oryoku Maru at Pier Seven, along with other loot the Japanese had taken. If so, it is now at the bottom of Subic Bay.
10. This photo was captioned MacArthur's "1941 Packard 160 Clipper, serial number 1512-5747". But because of the five star flag, this cannot be the same car mentioned in # 9 (MacArthur added his fifth star in December '44). Does anyone know if MacArthur had two Packards?
11. This picture is from the Corregidor museum, courtesy corregidor.org. According to the sign the car is a "1937 Cabriolet" built by GM for President Manuel Quezon. In 1938 it became MacArthur's.
