Corregidor, Bottomside-July-06 to the 8th 2018 FOURTH SEGMENT WITH 18 MORE IMAGES: One of several albums of my visit to Corregidor Island, the ex Forth Mills. I visited Corregidor between the 6th and the 8th of July 2018. All these pictures are views of Bottomside on Corregidor. Zc359-46. This is the menu of the watering hole on the south side at Bottomside on Corregidor. I had one good meal there of Pancit Bihon. Zc360-47. Caballo Island, the former Fort Hughes with the 14 Inch, always makes a great view from Corregidor. Somewhere there was the silver dumped in 1942. Zc361-48. The Cavite view from Corregidor, the small vessel at left is just even with Fraile Island, the present Concrete Battle Ship and the former Fort Drum. Zc363-51. The Cavite view from Corregidor, all the way to the right is Carabao Island, the former Fort Frank. Between the two prominent points is the Philippine Ternate Marine Base. Zc364-52. There is no trash, not even under the water at the north shoreline, the boat landing area, near the North Dock, Bottomside on Corregidor Island because of the prevailing SW Monsoon winds at this time of the year. Zc369-59. The Baywalk watering hole at the north shoreline, the boat landing area, near the North Dock, Bottomside on Corregidor Island. One can get a soup or a meal out of the can with some rice here. Zc370-60. The Baywalk watering hole at the north shoreline, the boat landing area, near the North Dock, Bottomside on Corregidor Island. The person is one of about 6 CFI employees on the island and she wears the uniform shirt. Zc371-61. The trees at Bottomside, Corregidor Island, sure have grown; in back is the Corregidor Inn on top of Skipper Hill. The Zip Line has disappeared in the crown of the trees. Zc372-62. The Freedom Café, the former MacArthur Café was shut down by the new CFI management, which also took over the overnight rental units. I rented one of those former Freedom Café rooms from the new CFI Administration. During my stay all three budget watering holes were not available or shut down after 9pm. Zc373-64. During the night a Navy patrol boat came in and moored at the North Dock, Bottomside on Corregidor. Zc374-66. The life saving supply boat was the first boat in the morning of the 8th of July 2018 and moored at the North Dock, Bottomside on Corregidor. The boat coxswain is Minard (not sure about the spelling) who has done this service for years. Zc375-67. The boat coxswain is Minard (not sure about the spelling) is collecting his fee for his supply and transportation service to Corregidor from Cabcaben in Bataan. Zc376-68. That is the 3rd boat of Prime Square Ent. (PSE), it just came from the MAAP Pier on Bataan to pick me up. This organization, until recently, operated all 3 of their boats out off Corregidor but under the new CFI Management moved.

Corregidor, Bottomside-July-06 to the 8th 2018 THIRD SEGMENT: One of several albums of my visit to Corregidor Island, the ex Fort Mills. I visited Corregidor between the 6th and the 8th of July 2018. All these pictures are views of Bottomside on Corregidor. Zc351-34. The Corregidor Inn swimming pool is filled with clean water but it is not open for use, rumor has it that some bureaucratic hang-up is the cause? Zc352-35. A view of Malinta Hill on Corregidor from the south shore of Bottomside, that building was last under the control of Sun Cruises Inc. But I don’t know the present status, it is not being used. Zc354-38. The south shore of Bottomside on Corregidor, Caballo Island is in back and the Cavite province is at right. The beach is clean! Zc355-41. The south shore of Bottomside on Corregidor, the crew of the large Coast Guard boat with their dependants had a picnic here. I met one young Ens. (Officer) who graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard academy! Zc356-42. A view of the Corregidor Inn rear (backside), wow, the greenery, the greenery! Zc357-44. The Gen. Wainwright and Nurses Memorial on Corregidor Island, the former Fort Mills of the Manila,-Subic Bays Harbor Defense Command looked in good shape. Zc358-45. This is the Coast Guard area east, next to the now closed Freedom Cafe, ex MacArthur Café; it seems they received a vehicle. I hope they also have a boat. The Excalibur gun insertion tube is still there in front of the Coast Guard Station.

The single hull ferry boat of the Sun Cruises Inc. is getting closer; it is called M/V Starlite Juno. Notice that the coal fired power plant in Mariveles, Bataan is expanding, and they have two stacks (chimney) now. Zc339-20. The single hull ferry boat of the Sun Cruises Inc. is making its final approach; it is called M/V Starlite Juno. Zc340-21. The single hull ferry boat of the Sun Cruises Inc. The single hull ferry boat of the Sun Cruises Inc. M/V Starlite Juno is discharging its passengers. 4 trolleys handle the 100 passenger capacity of the boat. I focused this shot on Mr. Wilfredo Labrador, the Boss of PSE. Zc342-24. The smallest of the 3 boats from Prime Square Ent. (PSE) that is the boat I used to get here. Later during the day it brought another group of visitors. Zc343-25. The single hull ferry boat of the Sun Cruises Inc. M/V Starlite Juno shot of its stern. Zc344-26. A large Philippine Coast Guard boat arrived, it was dependants cruise, they had a picnic on the south side of Bottomside, Corregidor Island. Zc345-27. The Rock garden that Mr. Edwards built on his own time is still intact. Mr. Edwards is the tourist event organizer in the Corregidor Inn; he is also an old hand on Corregidor. Everything is greener in the rainy season. Zc346-28. A large Philippine Coast Guard boat arrived, it was dependants cruise, they had a picnic on the south side of Bottomside, Corregidor Island. Zc347-29. A view towards the shore going to Malinta Point on Bottomside on Corregidor and across Lorcha Dock where Gen. MacArthur departed from in 1942. Zc348-30. A view towards the shore going to Malinta Point on Bottomside on Corregidor and across Lorcha Dock where Gen. MacArthur departed from in 1942. I only now had a closer look at the steep cliffs there. Zc349-32. The Boss of Prime Square Ent. (PSE) arrived today; right is a CFI staffer and left is the security guard on duty at the north shore water front, the preferred boat landing area. Zc350-33. Another CFI Staffer, under the New CFI management only one on-island staffer (person) is gone-Mr. Ron Benadero. So the people now are almost 100 % all the people one is familiar with if one is a frequent visitor.

All these pictures are views of Bottomside on Corregidor. Zc324-01. Freedom Café, the ex MacArthur Café was shut down by the New CFI, a great loss in my opinion. Zc325-02. Freedom Café, the ex MacArthur Café was shut down by the New CFI, a great loss in my opinion. This man is an old hand on Corregidor; he is from Maragondon, Cavite, a historic Bonifacio place. Zc326-03. The last of the 3 boats belonging to Prime Square Ent. (PSE), they operated boat service to and from Corregidor. Under the New CFI they moved to Bataan in 2018 and increased their boat fee to 4000 peso. Zc327-04. This is the greenery in front of the Corregidor Admin Building, 2018 Bottomside-April-06 on Corregidor. Zc328-05. There is no trash on the north shore, Bottomside, Corregidor Island, the ex Fort Mills because it is the SW Monsoon Season. It has driven all the trash away from this shoreline!!!!! Zc329-06. This sign on the Corregidor North Shore, Bottomside is not correct anymore; the jeepney price rose to 2000 peso. If you need a guide, that will be another 1000 peso. Zc330-07. During the rainy season from June to Sep., it only runs from Thursday to Sunday. Zc335-13. This view attracted me; it almost looks like tunnel under the line of trees along the road to the south side, towards the trolley bridge. Zc336-14. The restaurant on the south side of Bottomside on Corregidor is still operating, I had a medium size pancit bihon meal for 160 peso, it was a big plate and it was good. Zc337-17. Grande Island Resort, how it looks now, 2018-07-20! My friend Charlie Moser and I wanted to see Battery Warwick and take pictures for the 50th Anniversary of the “Big Guns” (10 Inch Disappearing Guns) arriving at the Fort Casey Washington State Park 50 years ago. We were lucky and met the right people and were invited to come on the island. I already uploaded pictures, about Battery Warwick, other batteries and the boat trip. This is the last presentation of some images of the resort. In about 2004 investors built a resort on Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, but it was not successful. For some time now the resort is closed and Grande Island is not available to be visited by the general public. The new General Manager, a 2nd generation Filipino-Chinese, said that other Mainland Chinese investors got control of this resort and have plans to revive the resort. He said they will specialize in landscaping and are working on that right now. The existing landscaping still looks pretty good! They do want to take advantage of the former Fort Mills Battery structures and maybe even mount some guns made out of synthetic materials, and make them part of the attraction. The chalets will be two storey structures, no work has been started. The wave pool, which was the baseball field, is now stocked with fishes. The hotel and restaurant are going to be renovated. It was not clear to me as to when they are planning to open it, so who knows? Grande Island, Fort Wint has a separate thread in our forum. Next month, on the 11th of Aug. 2018, The Fort Casey Washington State Park will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of receiving the two 10 Inch guns from Battery Warwick of the ex Fort Wint on Grande Island. We have covered the event and the sites of the two guns, at the new and old location, Fort Casey and Fort Wint in these thread pages: corregidor.proboards.com/thread/987/fort-wint-subic-bay?page=9The story started on page 8, scroll down: corregidor.proboards.com/thread/987/fort-wint-subic-bay?page=8In this Subic Bay, ex Naval Base presentation I chose 5 images to be presented here: Zc319. This is the resort on Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, 2018-07-20; landscaping between the chalets. Zc320. This is the resort on Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, 2018-07-20; we are looking from near the breakwater from west to east along the north beach/coast. This is the main beach now and was for the Navy before. Zc321. This is the resort on Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, 2018-07-20; this is one of their seed beds for their landscaping work. This is located where the Army barracks were, one can see the foundation posts. Zc322. Left we see the road that leads to Batteries Flake and Hall. This was a ball field during our time. Zc323. This is the resort on Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, 2018-07-20; we are looking at the front of the reception building as we step off the pier. I started a web page about the visit: philippine-sailor.net/2018/07/22/ex-fort-wint-on-grande-island-visit-with-charlie-2018-07-20/43 Grande Island Resort pictures were put into this Photobucket album, if you like to see them all: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Manila%20Bay%20Forts-Other/Fort%20Wint%20and%20Grande%20Island/Ft-Wint%20Visits%20Grande-Isl/Ft-Wint%2018-07-20%20w%20Charlie%20Grande%20Island?sort=9&page=1

CHARLIE MOSER AND KARL VISIT GRANDE ISLAND 2018-07-22 3rd Segment, 9 images, it is about boats, pier & trip, Nine (9) images have been uploaded into this Photobucket album. s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Manila%20Bay%20Forts-Other/Fort%20Wint%20and%20Grande%20Island/Ft-Wint%20Visits%20Grande-Isl/Ft-Wint%2018-07-20%20w%20Charlie%20Grande%20Island?sort=9&page=1In this forum page I chose 4 out of those 9 images: Zc315. This is the Grande Island Resort boat landing, one of their big boats, white, is at left. An outrigger boat arrived to pick us up. This was the site of the Navy Officer Boat Landing in the early days. These outrigger boats are NOT VERY GOOD TO LAND ON PIERS OR DOCKS. It was a choppy seas day and the crew had to struggle to keep us and the boat safe. In back we see the Leyte Wharf, the former Aircraft Carrier Pier, a merchant ship is alongside. Next to the Leyte Wharf have risen a huge bulk grain warehouse and about 5 silos. It is now a grain port. To the right was the famous actual geographic Cubi Point that is where the Officer Beach used to be. It is a big container port now. Zc316. This is the reception area of the Grande Island Resort, it was built around 2004 but now new investors from Mainland China will try to revive it. Right now it is closed to the public. Zc317. This is much of the north side of Grande Island, the former Fort Wint, much of this side, the east south side can be used for swimming, the west side is very rocky. Whatever the Navy had here IS GONE! Zc318. The distance from Grande Island is about 7 ½ Km, it was choppy and took some time. We are on our return trip. Ahead, along the Alawa Extension Wharf, are two USNS Ships, a merchant and Philippine Navy war ship.

Charlie Moser and Karl visit Grande Island 2018-07-20 Charlie came to visit from Hawaii and wanted to go to Grande Island, the ex Fort Wint, to take pictures of Battery Warwick. The two 10 Inch guns of Battery Warwick were dismantled and shipped to the Fort Casey Washington State Park 50 years ago. Charlie helped dismantle those guns and is invited to speak at the 50th Anniversary of the arrival of the “Big Guns” in Ft. Casey. The first resort on Grande Island was not successful, they had started about 2004. It is closed now. But thru luck we were able to get on the island on the 20th July 2018, met the On-Island Manager Christopher Andrada, and more important, the General Manager David Du was on the island that day. Both managers were glad to see us and hear about the history of the island and the fort. Mr. David Du is a 2nd generation Filipino-Chinese, he told us that Mainland China investors are now in charge and have plans to develop Grande Island anew. He could not give us an completion or opening date, so who knows when? I added 8 images of the people involved into this Photobucket album: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Manila%20Bay%20Forts-Other/Fort%20Wint%20and%20Grande%20Island/Ft-Wint%20Visits%20Grande-Isl/Ft-Wint%2018-07-20%20w%20Charlie%20Grande%20Island?sort=9&page=1In this thread I chose 4 of those images: Zc311. The General Manager David Du, his son Chris and the On-Island Manager Christopher Andrada, look at the history of the Battery Warwick 10 Inch guns. My shipmate Charlie Moser brought the printed material down from Fort Casey Park, he printed several copies, gave them to those Gentlemen and I got one copy also. Zc312. Charlie Moser and the General Manager David Du converse on Grande Island on the 20th July 2018. The greenery of the resort looks pretty good and the new management will make landscaping a priority. Zc313. Charlie Moser shows the General Manager David Du and his son pictures of the 10 Inch Guns, as they were dismantled, shipped and remounted at Ft Casey. Zc314. No 1 Gun of the 6 Inch Battery Hall, at the ex Fort Wint on Grande Island, people are right to left, Charlie Moser, David Du, David’s son and Karl Welteke 2018-07-20.

ex Fort Wint on Grande Island Visit with Charlie 2018-07-20 First segment of 8 images. Zc301. Battery Flake, 3 inch guns, 4 gun battery, Fort Wint on Grande Island in Subic Bay 2018-07-20. Because of the Fort Casey Big Guns 50th Anniversary on the 11th of Aug. 2018 we visited Grande Island and took some pictures. My friend Charlie Moser helped take the 10 inch guns apart 50 years ago and will join the 50 year anniversary at Ft. Casey State Park. The first resort on Grande Island failed, my opinion, and is now controlled by new investors from Mainland China. The new General Manager, a 2nd generation Filipino-Chinese, David Du, took us around. I contribute much to a web page of Fort Wint on Grande Island and our hosts were very much interested in our history about this island and this battery. They have big plans but when will they come to fruition-who knows? We did not have enough time to make a comprehensive image coverage. Battery Warwick is covered separately in an album in my Flickr account. Here is the URL: www.flickr.com/photos/44567569@N00/albums/72157693455868950Zc302. Battery Flake, 3 inch guns, 4 gun battery, Fort Wint on Grande Island in Subic Bay 2018-07-20. The new General Manager, David Du, gave us a personal tour and asked a lot of questions about the history. We started out at Battery Flake. Zc303. Battery Hall, 6 inch gun, 2 gun battery, No.1 Gun, Fort Wint on Grande Island in Subic Bay 2018-07-20. In the picture is the new General Manager, a 2nd generation Filipino-Chinese David Du and his son. Zc304. Battery Hall, 6 inch gun, 2 gun battery, No.1 Gun, Fort Wint on Grande Island in Subic Bay 2018-07-20. This view is from the area of No 2 Gun. The first resort on Grande Island failed, new Mainland Chinese investors are in control now, but when will it be complete, unknown. Zc305. Battery Hall, 6 inch gun, 2 gun battery, No.2 Gun, Fort Wint on Grande Island in Subic Bay 2018-07-20. Zc306. The former Fort Wint Power Plant on Grande Island, Subic Bay and now part of a new resort investment, which is not open yet and it is under the jurisdiction of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) , the former U.S. Naval Base. Zc307. The Mining Casemate, notice all the doors and windows are closed with bricks, one hole was made thru the bricks; what will we see? Zc308. The Mining Casemate, notice all the doors and windows are closed with bricks. This opening, one out of two, is one of the tunnel runs for the mine cables to run out to the mines. Zc309. Looking thru that opening, thru the brick work that closed all the windows and doors, well, the armored steel doors and window seem to be still in place. This is the mining Casemate on Fort Wint, Grande Island, and SBFZ. Zc310. The break-water at the north-west corner of Grande Island, the former Fort Wint. Today, the 20th of July 2018; it was a very rainy day and the sea was choppy, swells were coming into Subic Bay from the south west.
