Nisperos grave visit, MOH Recipient 22-10-17
Grave of Jose B. Nisperos, MOH Recipient
Cpl. Jose B. Nisperos was the first Asian who received the Medal of Honor, America’s highest decoration in 1913.
This was visit to the grave of the Filipino Hero at the San Fernando, La Union Cemetery also called Lingsat Public Cemetery on the 17th Oct. 2022.
The Lingsat Public Cemetery is very big and seems to be taken care of. The grave of Corporal Jose B. Nisperos is also in fine shape. I took these 16 pictures and will post them.
I posted 16 images in these 2 venues if you are interested.

For this forum presentation I only chose these 6 images:
Picture descriptions: (Note from Karl, I keep the whole picture descriptions in place here).
Images 00 and 01 are Google Earth images that indicate the location of the grave of MOH Recipient Jose B. Nisperos in the San Fernando, La Union Cemetery also called the Lingsat Public Cemetery.
Images 02 and 03 are wall image displays in the San Fernando, La Union City Hall that highlight the heroes of the province and region.
Note from Karl:
Mr. Philip Garcia has done this great job of this restoration of the photo of Jose B. Nisperos. It is really good and he needs to be credited and commentated for it. He has a Facebook page in his name, with an icon portrait in a Philippine Scout uniform.
Images 04 to 09 and image 11 show graves in the VIP, Heroes section of the San Fernando, La Union Cemetery also called the Lingsat Public Cemetery. They include the grave of Cpl. Jose B. Nisperos who was the first Asian who received the Medal of Honor, America’s highest decoration in 1913. No 11 image is a self-portrait at his grave.
Images 10, 12 and 13 are San Fernando, La Union Cemetery shots. I found it interesting that there was Public Bike Repair Station just outside the cemetery and alongside the National Highway. I had noticed these repair stations at other places in San Fernando, La Union. Another thing I noticed in San Fernando, La Union, they seem to have well functioning street drainage system (my opinion).
Images 14 and 15, we are looking about south east, were shot from the upper parking area of the Robinson Mall which is located a good block north of the MacArthur Hwy. and Pennsylvania Ave. intersection. That intersection is the site of the large Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; Pennsylvania Ave leads off towards Poro Point. I found the view interesting to look at the ridgeline that runs on a north-south axis and where the Oryoku Maru POWs noticed Japanese Artillery installed to defend against the coming American Invasion.
