From the shore road entrance to Malinta Tunnel via the Hospital laterals, there is what appears to be an undeveloped spur dug out of a somewht 45-degree turn from the shore road entrance into the main Hospital Lateral section. This is a section of the tunnel taken under fire at close range from a Sherman Tank during the retaking of Corregidor.
As late as the later 1970s, the butt ends of 75mm rounds could be seen sticking out of the "earthen" portion of the bend. By the 1980s, the rounds had been dug out of the rock wall.
