Hey Dmether....The excellent photo of the B-26 Marauder taking a hit reminded me of the experience of an acquaintance who flew three D-Day missions, being shot down on the third. He hid out in a French barn for several days until the farmer rowed him out to a British minesweeper and he returned to duty, retiring in the 1960s as a Lt/Colonel. He also flew F-84s during Korea. He remarked, more than once, that the Marauder had the glide capacity, if ever it lost engine power, of a beer bottle. As you probably know, its nickname was "the Widow Maker". Cheers.

Hey Patty...I suppose I should do that, especially the way I have been feeling the past few days. I have the "flu" and swear I am near death's door. lol. Seriously, it might not be a bad idea. Every little snippet that I have posted is true or, at least, was told to me as truth. Nice hearing from you, as per usual. Postscript...Ironically, I spoke by EMail, this very day, to the B-26 Pilot's daughter. She is a retired elementary school teacher, in Oklahoma City. I am sure you two would have much in common. She related this WW 2 tidbit to me, rather than her Dad. He, like so many combat veterans, was very reluctant to talk about his experiences. He finished his USAF Career as head of the AirROTC Department at my old Alma Mater, Oklahoma State Univ. I am surprised I have sat up at the keyboard this long, feeling as I do. Bye

Hi Okla,
I agree with Patty - you should write down your reminiscences. You experienced the war in Korea, so there is much to write about there too.
Regards,
fortman

Hey Fortman....Thanks for your comments. I didn't experience much "war" in Korea, only nuisance "visits" from "Bed Check Charlie",etc. Working in Ops/Intelligence Section of an F-86 Fighter Wing as a Sergeant, was very interesting. Having a Top Secret Security Clearance made me privy to some highly classified goings ons. I was the proverbial "fly on the wall", flunky Enlisted Man, sitting in the corner, taking it all in, and after 60 years, I am, fortunately, able to remember much of what I saw and heard. Cheers.
