Thanks Bob for the acknowledgement actually i'm still here in the middle east and planning to go on VL this 15th April well a bit too late for the metal detector but anyway it would be summertime and we just do hang up with Sherwin somewhere else there to be introduced more...
Yeah your right the un exploded grenade must be handled very well as it's always pretty dangerous with all the charges in tact...normally it must be turned over to the police for proper disposal...

Hi Bob, I understand about the hiking and climbing. I’m thinking there might be quite a bit of that at Longoskawayan. It’s a rough schedule but my Longoskawayan plan might fall around July 8-10 somewhere. If you’re around maybe we could swing by Limay to chat. I’m not sure if Karl will be available on those dates but I’m hoping he will be. If anyone else in this board who’s local to Bataan is interested, the more hiking partners the merrier Like I said I’ll probably bring a metal detector from the states. Making a sign for the school is a very nice gesture. It does go a long way toward goodwill from the towns folks. That’s a great idea. I wonder if I could present the Longoskawayan property owner with a token similar sign. Her name is Dr. Habawel and was not aware of the history of her property until very recently. I had sent her some scanned pages of what happened at Longoskawayan. She was very thankful and mentioned she would print them out and make available to visitors. In this regard, maybe a small sign to serve as marker acknowledging the history that transpired there could be a good token gift. I’ll look into it. As far as grenades, my friend Frank would photograph them for “documentation” and bury them back deeper than where he found them for safety. Dr. Habawel of Longoskawayan said they turned in a grenade to local police when they found one. Another property owner in Abucay told me he would just toss found grenades down the bottom of a nearby muddy creek. Please post pictures of the grenade when you find it. Thanks.

Several friends got together on Bataan (2013-July the 9th) to explore the Longos Kawayan Point and to get a feel of the geography where the US rear forces held a Japanese invasion in check in 1942. Then the 57th Inf. PS cleared the whole ridge of the Japanese. Corregidor (Ft. Mills) helped with the big guns and the USS Canopus sailors built some mini battle ships (ship’s boats with weapons and jury-rigged armor plates) to cover the operation from the sea. All four of us found some relics, and here are some that I found. Z64. These relics I found right at the very end of the Longos Kawayan Point, at the very edge of the where one looks down onto the west water and maybe in the middle point (equal distance to either of the coves on either side of the Longos Kawayan Point Ridge). Maybe the Philippine Scouts were shooting down from there. Z63. This tree is pretty much on the centerline of the Longos Kawayan Ridge and maybe 100 meters from the somewhat square end of the point. We rested there in the shade and had lunch. From left to right are the famous Vic Verano, his childhood school friend (now a doctor and a Grandson of Bataan Veteran) and Sherwin (Member of our Corregidor-Bataan Heritage Forum pages). Z65. On the way back, walking on the south slopes of Longos Kawayan Point ridge line we came across two more pockets of relics, laid out on this bucket. Early this year, I was here with Conrad Buehler, and all the south slopes were still covered with the tall Elephant Grass and we had a heck of a time getting around. But today it was a breeze getting around.

Congratulations guys on the great finds! The area looks very different now from the brown and scorched appearance of the dry season. I had assumed that the fresh growth would make relics finding more difficult, but apparently not. Were you able to get back over to the crest of Mt. Pucot to examine those entrenchment/shell hole remains? We look forward to further reports!

Great guys i thought i would be able to catch up with this walk since i started to plan way back April..I'm still here in Saudi Arabia was not able to go home as planned due to an emergency assignment to fill up somebody's shoe due to his emergency..Anyway i'm wrong to assess that July will be a wet month for an expedition in that part of WW2 battlefield..Though you are able to find relics surprisingly its now only handful.Maybe so many people were already way ahead in finding those battlefield remains due primarily "scraps".Thanks but do you still have more pics?..Thanks Guys..
