Barely two days after Ed Ramsey’s passing, another pillar and mainstay of the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society was called by the Commander-in-Chief. With a heavy heart, I regret to inform everyone that our beloved Capt. Felipe Fernandez, 26th Cavalry, passed away on March 9th, 2013. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Fernandez family for this most difficult time. Godspeed Capt. Fernandez. Karl and Fots, you met him last year at the reunion in Clark. He was an MG platoon leader when they were cut off from the rest of the 26th Cavalry during the last days of Bataan when the 26th pulled back but they didn't get the word. After discovering they were all alone, his platoon pulled back looking for the rest of the regiment. After reaching Mariveles with no sign of the rest of the 26th, he desperately looked for an officer who would give him orders. He was only a corporal then. Nobody could give them orders nor paid any attention to them. The end was clearly coming. They noticed a barge about to leave for Corregidor that still had a lot of space in it. They hitched a ride and reached Corregidor. They were attached to the marines since they had their complement of machineguns with them, and fought in the Corregidor invasion. Felipe was wounded in that action. He survived the war and rejoined the US Army during liberation. He became an officer after the war and fought yet again and was wounded in Korea. He was prominently part of the narrative in the book Twilight Riders: The Last Charge of the 26th Cavalry (published 2011).

Hey Vic....What a military record!!!! How many guys fought on Bataan, Corregidor and finally Korea? There can't be too many that did and this gentleman could be the last. Like Colonel Ramsey, they don't make them like this any more, methinks.
