Seventy years later, Mr. James Zobel, Executive Director of the MacArthur Memorial Library, talks about the destructive aspects of the Liberation of Manila and the issues that may provide closure to those tragic days of February 1945. The video has been produced by the Ortigas Media Team.

Thanks for posting this- I really enjoyed it. Mr. Zobel is an engaging speaker. I've been sitting here these past few weeks reflecting on the Battle of Manila and wresting with the "was it worth it" question. Sadly, the 70th anniversary of the battle was little noticed here in the US. Looking forward to John Lukacs's book.

A very good primer for those not familiar with this battle. As he mentioned, a lot of "what ifs." No opinions, just the way it was. It is indeed sad that so few in the US are aware of anything concerning The Philippines during ww2, much less the Battle of Manila.

Unfortunately with the slow internet speed here in Bataan, there are constant pauses in the You Tube video which would add another hour or more to the viewing time. If the Philippines ever decides to do something for the benefit of its citizens, this video may one day be viewed in its entirety without 150 pauses.

Who were the folks in his Audience? Where was it held?
Does anyone know if there is a tour available today to take you to the remaining WWII battle sites over METRO MANILA, and what sites are still there to be visited?
A list of possible sites still in existence today?
I know many important locations are now gone, Paco Train Station for one. Paco Cemetery is still there, mentioned in James Zobel's dissertation here.
