Hey Patty....Thought you might find this little tidbit interesting since it is akin to your post regarding the Code Talkers. Several years ago, maybe as many as 15, this elderly Native American gentleman, who lived around the corner from me, here in Tulsa, passed away. I had seen him many times walking, at our neighborhood Super Market, etc, but never spoke with him other than a friendly "Hello" when passing on the street, etc. Living in Oklahoma, Native Americans usually don't stand out in crowds since our population has so many of them, including my Wife, who is a proud one fourth Choctaw. But this man had a "bearing" about him, plus he wore his hair long, and usually in some type of braided style. There was just something "different" about Mister Chibitty. Upon his passing, the local Newspaper had a rather large "spread" dealing with him. Seems that he had been a Comanche Code Talker during WW 2, serving in Europe. Just goes to show that a person never knows who he is going thru the Super Market check line with. I wish I had known of this fellow's service when he was living. I probably would have made a pest of myself as I am sure I did with regard to the several Bataan Death March survivors that I served with while I did my stint in the USAF during the Korean Conflict. Cheers.
