Al and Spencer arrived on the North Mine Wharf quite similar to this layout and were marched past the Q M warehouses and workshops to the 92nd Garage area also known as the seaplane hangers on the other side of Malinta Hill. Their training began there. This photo is 1923 I believe, they arrived in 41'

On the right of this photograph is where the Q M storehouse was, in the 1923 picture it is the single long building at the foot of Skipper Hill. This is the road they marched on to go to 92nd Garage

This the same from the other direction. On the right would have been the cluster of Q M storehouses, lumber shed and workshops. This is where Paul wrote about right here!

I have a couple of questions I would like to put out there. When referring to a building in the 20's & 30's Corregidor, what is a "checker" and also a "portable S.L. shelter", I also see "S.L. power plant shelter" just East of the South Mine Wharf? And what was the purpose of a "vegetable oil house" Thank you, I look forward to your response!

Hi T2,
For starters I think that "S.L." stands for searchlight, so "S.L. power plant" would refer to the generator for the searchlight. I wonder whether vegetable oils, such as sunflower seed oil, could have been used for purposes other than cooking, hence the requirement for a large quantity. Well, it is nice to guess!

Hello, I have been informed that the Corregidor Inn is being renovated for three months which was supposed to start September 19th. I am curious to know of any progress. Thank you
__________
Karl was there a few weeks ago, and confirms the Inn is currently closed for renovation. (Check out all Karl's recent posts for the latest info.) The Corregidor Inn room rates, which have never been competitive or cheap, are sure to be under renovation as well. Overnights rooms are still available at the former 'Mac's Cafe." You might even consider buying a camping tent at Lozada.com.ph which delivers to addresses in the Philippines. exo

Fantastic! Thank you for the tips, I could stay at the Inn and be just as happy in a tent like Al and Spencer just so long as I can be there again...
