Photobucket broke again
Photobucket pictures do not load right now, at least not for me. Sorry that it happens, it seems it often has problems. Today I established an album about the progress of the Corregidor Inn renovation as of the 5th of May 2017. I was able to upload the pictures via one browser but not another one, but then, they would not open for editing. The whole thing sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was living in Manila a few years back, there were occasions (all too many) when hosting sites would not resolve. I was able to contact our good friend Steve Foster in the US via messenger, and discovered that he had no problem with the images appearing on his screen in Illinois. From his I concluded that the internet in the Philippines was choking the connection. In my view, it's a the PLDT backbone in the country lacking the backbone to provide adequate service to the country. The internet was developed around the concept that there would be numerous lines of connection between servers, and that if for any reason a portion of the net would drop out (such as in a Nuclear War - the Internet is a civilian development of a military network) the routing could be automatically reconfigured within itself to transmit the messages through other servers. The problem arises in the Philippines that PLDT essentially is a monopoly, and that it has a very limited backbone capacity and cannot re-route through alternative servers. Thus, it "chokes" the highway, and messages/packets of data can't get through. Though you might not be a PLDT customer, your internet supplier is. The Australian-based Telstra company, in partnership with San Miguel Corporation, attempted to enter the market to compete with PLDT but the "old boy cartel" literally ran them into the ground by means of anti-competitive actions which would be considered illegal in normal countries, nobbled them, forcing them to abandon efforts at improving service to Filipino customers. The government at the time looked the other way. EXO

Yes Karl, I've had lots of problems with Photobucket, too. It's very frustrating, seems to take forever to do the simplest editing. Sometimes I have better luck on Photobucket if I am using google chrome instead of firefox. Hang in there bud, I sure do enjoy your posts!

My connection to Photobucket seems to work again and I just made a picture presentation at my trip report thread page. EXO explained that if other people in the other world can see my Photobucket pages but I can’t open them/ or see them here in the Philippines it must be an internet infrastructure deficiency in country here. For about 6 days I could not reply in the forum at all if it needed images. My presentations all require images!

Photobucket has a problem again!!!!!!! **SERVICE DISRUPTION UPDATE 12/21: The majority of Photobucket Members are back online. We continue to work on getting all Members’ fully functional. We will report back as progress continues.** We apologize for the recent service disruption that you have been experiencing these last few days. We deeply regret that this happened and we are working around the clock to bring photobucket.com back online. First and foremost, your images are safe. Our number one priority is to ensure that your images are secure and we have several systems in place to make sure nothing is compromised. We will provide ongoing updates as we make progress to finding the full solution. What happened? On Wednesday, December 18th we experienced a total power outage at our primary data center. Due to the abrupt nature of the outage the equipment that runs the site shutdown unexpectedly. The immediate shutdown resulted in systematic issues when the power was restored. Unfortunately, due to this unexpected shutdown, we were also not able to rely on our backup data center resources. What are we doing right now? The process is taking longer than expected because the security we have in place requires additional processing time. Most importantly, our primary focus is to ensure your photos are safe and secure! What are we doing to prevent these situations going forward? We are in the process of migrating Photobucket to a more reliable environment. The environment will give us more stability and help us reduce these issues in the future. Once service is restored, our primary focus will be on moving your beloved images to this environment. We understand your frustration and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your ongoing support, Ted CEO From Karl, this is the URL: photobucket.com/notice/news/

My Photobucket account is not fixed yet!
I received this email today!
Dear Photobucket Members,
We apologize for the most recent site outage that impacted you over the last several days. We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may have caused you.
We experienced a total power outage at our primary datacenter. Because of the abrupt nature of the power outage, our system wasn’t able to utilize backup processes to stay online without interruption. Over the past several days, many of our systems have come back online and we’re making progress so that our site is available to all Members. The process has taken longer than expected and we are working diligently to bring the site up as fast as possible without compromising any photos on the site. Most importantly, your photos are safe!
I’m sorry, I understand your frustration as well as the hardship you may have experienced over the past week. We all rely on trusted digital partners to make our lives easier and when they let us down it’s irritating and disruptive.
We’ve learned a lot from this experience and we are taking major steps to prevent this from happening again. We continue to work around the clock until the website is fully functional for every Member and we will keep you updated as things progress. Over the next few months, our focus will shift to rolling out a new website and new mobile apps, built on a more reliable platform.
Thank you for your commitment and loyalty to Photobucket!
Ted

I just received this message from Photobucket about an image hosting plan account that I have paid for the past two years. The account is paid in full until May 20, 2020, when it is supposed to automatically renew. It appears that PB is stating that the account will no longer support image hosting unless I soon upgrade to a $60 USD year plan, an increase of $40 USD year. Then the following year, the rates will again increase to the "regular undiscounted retail price", whatever that is. I have two such paid PB image hosting accounts. In addition, I have been continuously receiving emails from PB stating that my accounts are exceeding the "storage limit" even though they are at 7.62% and 1.34% respectively. They are also claiming that my accounts are over the "bandwidth limit" of 25 MB. The original contract from two years ago never mentioned a bandwidth limit, and on some days my accounts show nearly 0 MB bandwidth used. Here is the page from my most-used account. The other, lesser-used account shows far less storage and bandwidth used. I have emailed PB about this several times and been told that my accounts are "within limits", but the warnings keep coming. Has anyone else received these messages? Needless to say, my opinion of Photobucket has reached a new all-time low. Comments and advice appreciated.

Chadhill and All
Photobucket has been a most disappointing photo sharing account I ever have been a customer with.
I ADVISE ALL, NOT TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM.
It is not only a problem of price gouging us, now they changed to a new display format. I’m struggling to learn how to use it.
I would have quit them a long time ago if I have not invested so much work and effort putting my pictures in my account with them. I’m paying now $100.
