Yesterday, 20th of July 2008 I received this request. However I’m pretty ignorant about those days, so I’m passing this on as a new threat, hoping for help. I did meet a Death March Survivor recently who surprised me in that he marched all the way to Capas, no train ride for him. He was an Army medic from #2 Hospital and they started to march him and others immediately after the Surrender.
From: "Shane Boyd" To: "POW" Japanese-POW -West-Point Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2008 10:02 AM Subject: Japanese-POW: First Group to O'Donnell?
Hello. Do we know anything about the first group of POWs to arrive at O'Donnell?
According to the notes made by my uncle, Capt. Ted Kern, he was in the second group to arrive, having been trucked to O'Donnell on 11 April, when they set up the hospital in advance of the men arriving on foot.
I haven't read accounts of those first days and would be interested in learning more. I'd also like to find a way to confirm who was the senior medical officer present during this initial period, if anyone has any suggestions, thoughts? Thanks Shane

Shane,
I read a book written by a relative using notes of "his uncle Adrian Martin(?)". In the book Adrian, a University of Notre Dame Graduate, is assigned as a 1st Sgt to a company in the 200th Coast Artillery at their training at Ft Bliss, TX. T

I was cut off So I can't tell how Adrian was thrown on a truck and taken with a group of POWs by the Japs to O'Donnell. Probably better as I don't have access to his book and can't check to see who all was at the camp or not at the camp. Tom McGeeney
