Hello geoman. How many Petron Stations are in the Philippines and what route does the Fly the Bus take?
I live here and have never noticed this monument! I’m always very busy but if it is not too far, I like to look it up. Can you be a little more precise, please?
I see one of the sponsors is the Mabalacat Tourism Office, is it in that town and the memorial is along Gen. MacArthur Highway? That would mean at least two month, before I head that far in that direction.

Hi Karl, The swagman bus, actually a min van, runs from Angeles to Subic Bay (Barrio Barretto). The website is www.flythebus.com/. The "bus" takes the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway. Victory bus runs an air conditioned bus on the same route from the Dau bus terminal to the Olongapo bus terminal. Victory is more connivance in the sense that it cheaper and runs several times through out the day, the swagbus rides once each way, but the Victory Bus requires the extra step of taking a trike from Dau and Olongapo to your final destination. I have no clue how many Petron stations are in operation. If I were in the PI I would try contacting the Swagbus company and ask where this particular station is. Showing them the monument pictures might help. As for the mystery monument, the Swag bus driver stopped at a Petron station on Clark Freeport for gas before getting on the express way and the monuments (there appear to be two) were behind the gas station. By the time I got my camera out of my bag the bus was rolling out of the gas station. So now the question is, "what happened in 1937?"

I dont believe anything in particular happened in 1937. It would seem that this would be a monument to the Philippine Army Artillery units and not the US Army, which was represented by the 24th Field Artillery (PS).

Hi CB,
I did a Google search and found the following:
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga- A forgotten site of the Philippine Army Artillery headquarters, which bred heroes of World War II and even the wars in Korea and Vietnam, is now marked with a monument inaugurated here over the weekend by Army Commander Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda.
Mabalacat City Mayor Marino Morales, who was among those who helped the Artillery Foundation of the Philippines, Inc pursue the project, noted that the monument area used to host the Army artillery called Kampo del Pilar, named after Gen. Gregorio del Pilar who is known as the Hero of Tirad Pass.
The monument is situated in the so-called Global Gateways City here within the boundaries of Barangay Dau, Mabalacat.
Mabalacat tourism officer Guy Hilbero, a member of the artillery foundation, said the artillery center had been venue for new Army recruits from March 10, 1937 up to Dec. 10, 1941. It also hosted the Artillery School for Reserve Commission.
The monument consists of two posts which was preserved from the center’s active days, and a marble marker which recalled that the headquarters instilled in Army recruits “outstanding degree of discipline, esprit de corps, love for duty to country.”
“The artillery also reponded to the call to the defense of the country and served with the highest nobility and bravery in the war in Bataan and Corregidor,” the marker said.

Hi Fortman, I am not aware of any Philippine Army artillery elements that were present on Corregidor and believe that they were involved in the Bataan battles only, so this monument may be partially incorrect?

What happened in 1937? Gen. MacArthur and his Chief of Staff Col Eisenhower where building up the Philippine Army, that is my guess. How many Petron Stations are there? Za944. There are plenty of Petron Gas Stations on Clark Freeport or around it. Za945. There is this Petron Gas Station in the Global City on Clark Freeport. Za946. Petron Gas Station in the Global City on Clark Freeport zoomed in. It will be a few months before I get up there again and check it out. By all your descriptions I place it here, my best guess!

Hi All,
Looks like 1937 is the year of the founding of the artillery school. It is probably field artillery; coast artillery training would probably have been at Ft Mills.
