The navy chartered SS President Harrison & SS President Madison to move the China Marines to the Philippines. Each made one trip, and Harrison was lost off Shanghai on her second trip to bring out the Marines in North China. SS President Madison left Manila heading south (at Balikpapan on Dec 9th). Had she been released from her charter, or was she on another mission for the Navy? The Philippine tug Ranger departed Hong Kong prior to December 8th for Manila with a load of Navy equipment and ammunition. Was she actually chartered by the Asiatic Fleet, or just used informally? When did she arrive at Manila? Thanks in advance!!

SS Coolidge was lost near Luganville, Vanuatu. (off Espirito Santo). A US mine did it. It is one of the biggest accessible shipwrecks in the world sitting at 198m long and 22,000 tons in weight. Situated a short distance offshore, all the dives are shore based, with the front of the boat in just 18 metres of water.
