Hello all! I am a newbie to this site, and my Great Uncle Pfc John P. Prettyman was in the 462nd PFAB, B Btry. He was KIA on Feb. 17, 1945 at Battery Wheeler. Since my Grandmother (his sister and next of kin) is now deceased, I'm trying to find out about his life in the military, and if there might be any photos or stories about him. I'm proud of his service in WWII, and wish that I could have known him! Any information would be most appreciated!
Thank you!

Although i know very little about your Great uncle's life, I do know of the circumstances of his death, which are probably already known to you through the narratives contained in the books of the campaign. These circumstances are also told in the book I wrote with Bill Calhoun, "BLESS 'EM ALL" and via the website upon which the book was based. I have visited numerous times the verandah of the house on Corregidor where he was killed. Lately, I have updated the search facility which is at the base of the rockforce.org page, and if you go there all you need to do is type 'prettyman' there and you will be given a number of pages which mention him. As for what his military life prior to Corregidor would have been like, well it would be very much like the lives of all the 503d brothers. So following the history of the 503d is essentially to follow him. There is a time line of the 503d at corregidor.org/503rd_Association/timeline.htmI do not have a photo of him in uniform, and it would be good to have one, particularly for his TAPS page at corregidor.org/taps/htm/prettyman.htm

Thank you EXO for your response! I have read about his heroism, and how he died. My grandmother never spoke of her brother to my mom, or to me. It saddens me because there is so much to be proud of, and that's why I'm so glad I found this community - which might shed a little into his young life. I do have a photo of him that I would like to share with you (for his TAPS page). I would gladly share it if you direct me how to do so.
Many thanks!
Jennifer

Musicgirl, I have sent a personal message. I prefer not to place my email on this forum, as junkmail bots harvest forums for email addresses.
