The 317th Troop Carrier Group was first activated as the 317th Transport Group in February 1942, becoming the 317th Troop Carrier Group in July. The 317th, which became known as the JUNGLE SKIPPERS, took part in nearly all the airlift operations in the Pacific Theater of Operations, including the Battle of Wau, New Guinea, and the Corregidor Operation. I can now share their Operations Instructions of 13 February 1945, and extracts of their Narrative Report of the Corregidor mission. These reports contain a selection of the images our regular students will be familiar with, as well as several aerial photos I haven't seen before. Interestingly, to me anyway, the Wikipedia entry about this 317th mission refers to it under the name "Operation Topside." This is wrong, it never was. No formal name, descriptor or code-name was allocated to the jump. "Wikipedia being wrong?! Well who'd have thunk it!"
