THE BATTLE OF MANILA I've long had a particular interest in the Battle of Manila - such that in 2014 I published a book about it, called MANILA 1945 - AFTERMATH -. Those who acquired print-on-demand copies were very complimentary about it, but as plans to have 1000 copies published by offset process and distributed to school libraries in Manila were torpedoed, it remains somewhat of a rare book. Such is life. In bringing that book to life, I spent an awful lot of time in research, and I had the full cooperation of two of the best co-authors, Prof. Rico Jose, and Mr. Peter Parsons, whose articles I included. Every February (the Battle of Manila occurred in February) , though, Facebook throws up a number of graduates of the Facebook School of History, who never having researched the topic deeply, think they know the 'truth' of the Battle. (This is not dissimilar from the Facebook University of Law, the Facebook University of Medicine, and the Facebook University of Rocket Science.) There's enough on the internet cautioning folk not to bother arguing with the stupid, but Facebook still provides a crowded playing field for this sport. I need to stop myself from quibbling with galoots. I was going through my filing cabinet and found an item I had acquired during the course of my research for 'Manila 1945 - Aftermath-' which I felt could be republished here. I have also linked to it from my Battle of Manila Website. It is the report of the GHQ Military Intelligence Section on the Destruction of Manila. It's not short, which should discourage those galoots. An eBook version of Manila 1945 - Aftermath is available for ten bucks.
