Some years ago, a volunteer at the MacArthur Museum in Brisbane asked me to identify the origins of a typed, and hand-corrected manuscript in their collection. To make a long story short, I identified it as an early draft version of a diary by a Manila mining identity, Henry Brimo, who had remained in Manila throughout the war.
I thought it would make an excellent topic for a website.
I met Henry Brimo Jr., his son in Sydney, who told me of his plans to edit a more recent version of the diary and to put it on the internet.
That he has done, and I have just spent a few hours going through it, and being greatly impressed. By the time of the Battle of Manila, it becomes a late-night page turner that keeps you awake and alert.
He has some particularly pithy views about the Japanese responsibility for the death and destruction of Manila, that revisionists might find uncomfortable.

Another good book along the same lines is "The Drainpipe Diary" by Tressa R. Cates. She was an American civilian nurse living in Manila when the war started. She was interned in Santo Tomas for the duration, and her book describes that experience. She also spends some time discussing the Battle for Manila and the early days of the American occupation of Manila after the city was recaptured. "The Drainpipe Diary" - Tressa R. Cates
COMMENT: Definitely worth a reading. - EXO

Nice, thank you. EXO’s comment at the end is spot on. Many books hyped sensationalism to boost sales. Historians know better.

Henry,
It has been a few years now, and the fight against the revisionists continues. Each year the same old misinformations appear on Facebook, and there's just not enough time to challenge them. I am hoping to make arrangements for the continuation of hosting of Battle Of Manila.Org across another decade, as I believe that there need to be voices speaking for those who were there, and have not survived to speak across the years. Manila War Diaries needs to be in a permanent form, it is probably one of the best, articulate and erudite narratives of Manila during the Japanese occupation. EXO
