REPOST BY KARL, batteryboy’s PICTURES ARE GONE Karl had copies! Post by batteryboy on Sep 1, 2008 at 9:24pm Since the topic also involves early aviation in Manila, here are a few photos that maybe of interest: The first Filipino passenger in an aircraft was an Igorot Chieftain named "Gagaban". This happened in Feb. 12, 1912 when the pilot Lee Hammond offered to take the chieftain aloft in a Red Devil bi-plane over Luneta Park during the Manila Carnival of the same year. Y674 Two photos of a Curtiss Seagull on the beach at Tambo, Paranaque about to take in the waters of Manila Bay. Y675 Y676 Regards,

BALLLOON HANGAR “A” AND AREA On 2014-11-22 I had a closer look at Balloon Hangar “A” and the surrounding area. I had been here before and a few older pictures are also presented. 24 images have been uploaded into this Photobucket album: tinyurl.com/logdsfhAnd here as usual are some smaller sample images: Y681. A graph of the Balloon Hangar A and Building No. 628 by Karl. On each side of the building is a row of H-Frame concrete posts. And that is all that is left of the hangar building. Y681a. A section of the 1936 Corregidor map, ex Fort Mills, showing the Balloon Hangar A and area. Y682.My GPS Track on this day 2014-11-22 visiting the ex Ft. Mills Balloon Hangar. Y683. Looking at the NE corner from the SE direction; this is the rear end of the Balloon Hagar A on Corregidor. Notice the very low wall between the last two concrete posts. Y684. This is the 4th, 5th and 6th concrete H-Frame set at the north side row from the east, we are looking west. Balloon Hangar A on Corregidor at the ex Fort Mills 2014-11-22. Y685. This is the south side row from the east; we are looking west from the SE corner. Balloon Hangar A on Corregidor at the ex Fort Mills 2014-11-22. Y686. From below the north side Balloon Hagar “A” exits is a drainage culvert. Y687. This is the drainage run channel from under the Balloon Hangar A; I followed it down to the beach. Y688. Having a look around on the beach below the Balloon Hangar A; in the distance is Cavalry Point. Between these two locations the Japanese landed in their following waves. Y689. If you look at the map there is a structure indicated with this designation: Ch.W. Stor. No.21. We were told by the Coast Defense Study Group People that stands for Chemical Warfare Storage No.21. This is 2008 image. Y690. Again if you look at the map you see that the Defense Position III-M-1 is not far off. That is all that was left in 2008. Note to chadhill: I will respond in a few days re the trails

Karl, what's the best way to the old hanger area? Down the old road, north of the Philippine monument and Battery Denver? I have not had the pleasure of that trip. A long and tangled walk, or done in an hour or so? Signed, Getting older faster..............
