Both locations were popular prewar rest areas with U.S Troops and civilians.
Taal Vista Lodge in Tagaytay was built and run by the Manila Hotel at one time.
The U.S. forces used it as headquarters for a time during the war.
The area is almost 2000 ft above sea level and much cooler than Manila.
