hey vic....i am in full agreement with you on this question. i am sitting half a world away, but it still seems a bit out of place, disrespectful, bad taste, etc to have such activities on "the rock". i betcha if some type poll was taken, that would be the verdict. i realize that the good folks who would participate in such activities have the best of intentions, but it just would sit wrong with me, not that i have a vote. to me, it would be the same as having a paint ball, etc event on the fields of gettysburg. now i would be in full agreement with such activities at clark field. i truly believe it would fully be appropriate on the former clark reservation. to put it bluntly, for me corregidor is sacred ground. the former air force base at angeles is in an entirely different category. maybe i am just a cranky old albatross, but that's my two cents worth. as the guy supposedly said, "thats my story and i'm stickin' to it".

Well, I agree with you on the issue on safety. Just for the sake of discussion. I was thinking along the line of a limited and controlled area. Like a guided tour. The existing ruins should not even be considered. As it is now, going near it is not even safe. Picnics and excursions if uncontrolled will have the same safety concerns. The main idea is not to desecrate the place. But to create awareness and encourage people to come. Some of you guys are half a world away. We are in a better position to come and take care of our own. Last saturday was my first trip. I will bring my buddies on the next trip and hope to gather more support to help generate more revenues for the place.

If you are wearing a PS uniform, make sure you are either carrying an M1, Springfield, or M1917 Enfield (or a Thompson would do). An M-16 or a modern weapon would look weird in your PS outfit in Corregidor.

Hi Bulikiti,
Your heart is in the right place and you were merely suggesting a vehicle known to you that could possibly bring revenues in. Having re-introduced to Corregidor by this forum, and having gone there for the first time recently, you have become an advocate of the rich heritage of the place. And when you bring your friends to the island, I hope they will gain a lot from it as you did.
From one airsofter to another, I know we never go to a place and not see it in an alternate view. We are always subconsciously evaluating a location for its potential as a gamesite. And that's the truth.
Back in 2003, there were games held in the island and promoted at Filairsoft.com. I appealed to the organizers via the FAS forum to not hold anymore games there just out of reverence for the place. The reply was "would you rather just have the paintballers enjoy the place and not airsofters?" I think that's the wrong attitude by those organizers. It completely missed the point and we have to have a bigger view than that. We need to hold some things sacred, just as we won't play in a cemetery or inside a church.
You said that some of us are half a world away and that people closer can better take care of their own... that's true. However I truly believe that playing airsoft there to bring in revenues is not one of the best ways of taking care of it. It will bring revenues for sure, and whatever amount will help the island. But it's just as easy to hold an event elsewhere and allocate a portion of the proceeds "for the benefit of Benny and the Bolos" and still raise awareness as well.
Again, just my two cents and I'm just one person. And please don't misunderstand me, I'm not unceremoniously dismissing your idea. I'm just presenting another view as an airsoft player myself, since most of the current members in this forum are not. Just another take on the matter.
In the end it's the island's management that will decide what they will allow or not.
Cheers. -victor

Nice one victor.
Bulitiki, I am not a half world away. I am just in Marikina. You guys are better off at Clark for the airsoft or somewhere else much safer. Believe me. Some of us know the island like the back of our hands and it has a life of its own. You will never know what will hit back at you (i.e - a fallen debris, the thorny bushes, the unexploded ordnance, the scorpions and even the monkeys)
A few years ago, a group of guys brought a few airsofts and played their on their own (unorganized). The tourist cant stand seeing white plastic pellet balls in the gun batteries and mile long barracks. Now you would not like to be tagged as one of the guys with the small white plastic balls do you?
Just my two cents worth

In spirit I am one with you. The place had a profound effect on me that it will be a sin not to propagate its memory. I will rest my case in deference to all those who hold the place as hallowed ground. To Steve and Marcia, and to all those who remember, to this forum, thank you for keeping the memory alive.

Assuming there were funds or investors, were there any suggestions to revive the old golf course in Corregidor? As in golf course ala "Intramuros Golf Club". Again, no offense intended. Just picking my brain on how best to find other options for Corregidor w/o desecrating its memory. I don't mind getting the "flak" again but Golf is much different from putting up a casino which I also don't agree to. The memory of Corregidor starts to fade with time. If you build it, they will come ( no pun intended ). You know, I keep coming back because I learn a lot from you. I am no expert in history and may not share with you the same degree of passion about the past. I rest my case, again.

Personally, I like the golf course idea.
I'm sorry that you took the arguments against airsoft games as "flak." They certainly weren't meant to be flak.
