Hi Guys: It's a little hard to see, perhaps, but my uncle's Battery-mate drew this map for me last month when I saw him at the ADBC reunion. Perhaps everyone already knows where the AA guns were located in relation to the the 12-inchers. If not, hopefully this will be some help (the scale might be off a bit!). My uncle was on AA gun #1, and his buddy, Everett Reamer, was on gun #2. Matt

batteryboy:
In your map, are the X's or the boxes the sites for the AA guns? If it's the boxes, were there really 11 AA guns protecting Cheney?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
The areas with the X's are the approximate location of the AA position of your uncle. The boxes on the map were the mounting blocks during AA practice (pre-war) and were not necessarily armed with 3-inch guns during the siege.
Cheers,

Battery Cheney, as it looks 2018-07-06 On the 6th to the 8th July 2018 I visited Corregidor and so far I only documented my first walk on the 6th of July. Here are 4 images: Battery Cheney and Battery Wheeler are not presented on the Corregidor Sun Cruises day tour nor are they kept clear of growth by CFI anymore. On the road and around the batteries grass and weeds are growing, on the road two big trees are down over the road and one got to climb over or under these. Battery Cheney is also interesting for the AA batteries that were stationed there nearby in the past and nearby is Battery West, the Fort Mills way to mount a 155 mm field artillery piece. Battery Cheney & Wheeler Pt. or Banzai Pt. These two locations the day visitors normally do not get to visit. But they are very special, at Banzai Point a terrible night battle occurred in the night of the 18th to 19th Feb. 1945 and Battery Cheney fired her last gun to last day in the Battle of the Corregidor Siege. My friends and I visited these two locations on the 14th June 2022. Plus at Banzai Pt. or Wheeler Pt. one gets a great view of the SW corner of Corregidor with 300+ Ft. cliff and where interesting history occurred. This is the picture description for 9 of these 11 pictures, 2 pictures has separate descriptions. This is one of 9 Images of Battery Cheney, shot on the 14th of June 2022. The first 3 shots are of gun #1 and pictures 4 & 5 are of gun #2 of Battery Cheney. 2 additional images are described separately. 3 pictures show my friends coming up the step at the rear of Battery Cheney Gun #1, one by one. The last picture shows were we had to cut a path thru to the battery, in order to get to it and depart from the battery. This path is all the way at the left end of the battery, standing in the rear and looking in the firing direction. The rear of Battery Cheney is now completely overgrown. Corregidor - Battery Cheney, this is a nice aerial pic. We don’t know when it was shot but for many years the Corregidor Foundation Inc (CFI) kept it clean and clear like this. The picture came from this website, Traces of War, and it is credited to: PH1 David C. Zg321. One of the 12 Inch gun barrels is being installed at Battery Cheney in Fort Mills on Corregidor Island, Manila Bay, Philippines. It looks like they are using hydraulic jacks. This is a picture from the Karl Schmidt Collection, CDSG. He just sent it now, the 17th of June 2023 and gave me permission to use it as I see fit.
