Hi okla, The Powerplant was built so it looks like it is at the side of a hill. I don’t think it can be seen from Bataan although it did have a tall smoke stack at one time. I am pretty sure I read that when the Refrigeration Plant got destroyed, it was bombs that did it. How is this for bomb damage? This is the interior of one room in the Powerplant. I was told that this was done by a 2000 pounder dropped by a B-24 Liberator. Thanks for the urinals info, sounds good. I also get subtle comments about Corregidor and time on my hands. She knows it is a lost cause though… ;D

Hey Fots....Are those steel pillars warped/bent due to the bomb blast or from years of supporting part of middleside and other debris? ??

Warped from the bomb blast okla. There is nothing much heavy above this room and adjacent rooms with no blast damage are fine.
Amazing isn't it.

My friend Keith standing in what we believed was Searchlight #8 tunnel, in 1987. That's the one that was taken out on Hirohito's birthday (4/29/42), probably by a 240mm shell that came down the ventilation shaft, killing Lt. Friedline and five others. In one of the tunnels, probably this one, there was broken glass, twisted metal, a burned boot sole, busted eyeglasses, and bone fragments. There was even some soot left on the walls. On one of my 1986 trips, I ran into veteran Max McClain. He said he had belonged to Searchlight #5 on top of Malinta. I have read in these forums that there was no #5 on top of Malinta Hill. Maybe I have the number wrong, but Max said he was on Malinta Hill and not part of Friedline's crew, unless my memory is terribly mistaken. I read in "Quan" that Max passed away, about 2005. Top of Malinta Hill, 1987. I had no idea what the name of this structure was. Thanks, fots2 for revealing that it was the East Defense Officer's Station! (reposted with enlarged photo) Attachments:

Hi Chad,
Searchlight #8 is the one in your photo. Searchlight #5 is located on the south side of the island at oddly enough, Searchlight Point. It is still there although a pain to get to.
I love those “Then and Now” photos. You will have okla drooling today.

Hi Chad, Great photos you have posted recently. Please post Topside etc photos when you have time. Here is my procedure for posting photos. There may be better ways but this works for me. (1) Upload the photo to Photobucket. (2) Put your cursor over the thumbnail photo so a box appears below the photo. Note the text “HTML Code” and the code beside it (in a small box). (3) Move your cursor down to the code box and click it. The code is pasted onto your Clipboard. (4) Logon to the forum and in the thread you want, click “reply”. (5) Click in the text box. (6) Hold down the “Ctrl” key and simultaneously press “V”. This pastes the code into the text box. Sample code: <ahref="http://s307.photobucket.com/albums/nn299/fots2pix/Misc%205/?action=view¤t=1-6.jpg" target="_blank"><img src=" i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn299/fots2pix/Misc%205/1-6.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Out of all that garbage you only want the text after src=”. I underlined it for you. (i.e. http://.... ....jpg) Delete all the rest of the text. (7) Hold down your left mouse button and drag your cursor over all the text so it is highlighted. (8) Above the text box, note the picture frame icon that says “Insert Image”. Click it. Brackets with text is added before and after the photo code. (9) Click “Preview” to see if the large photo displays ok. If yes, click “Post Reply”. Lots of steps but it is easy once you do it a couple times. I like the large size of your photos. Mine are all 800 pixels wide if Landscape or 700 pixels wide if Portrait.
