I'm just checking in to see if any thing has come about in contacting family members.
I'll be in Connecticut the week of Sept. 24th. I'll be stopping into the cemetary to take a photo of Matthews headstone. I'll have a photo for EXO to be posted on the Honor Roll in a few weeks I'm sure.
Thanks Dan

I have received nothing definite from any source at this time as to living relatives. Some good information as to the location of his grave has come forward, thank you for that.
I have been in touch with Bert Caloud from the U.S. Military Cemetery in the Philippines recently and he advised I wait for the official Army response previously described in this string. The response in due in October.
A picture of Matthew's grave site for Paul's site, and this string, would help tell his whole story.
If I receive no definite information on a family member who wants to receive Matthew's dog tags, I may just bring them back to be with his comrades in the National Cemetery in Manila, or back to Corregidor whence they came........

Well, I will not be going to Connecticut anytime soon. My wife and I had a bad start on our vacation. To make a long story short, I'm out of the hosiptal and home resting.
Maybe in the future we will stop in and visit Matthew's resting place, but we have no such plans this year. Maybe a Hartford Local will read this post and help out.

Sorry to hear that your vacation didn't start off all that good. Well, actually, it sounds as if the "road trip" sucked big time. At least you are still with us on the green side of the grass.

Hello Scott,
I'm the one who found Matthew's Dog tags on Corregidor this year and have been trying to return them to a family member. You can see we have a lot of info from many sources on Matthew on the website.
A few questions. Did he have a brother who also died in the war? Are there any other relatives still living? What can you tell me about his immediate family? What was he like? Where do you live now?
I'm still awaiting the Dept. of the Army's information on Matthew. They were to get it to me by the end of October, no word yet. Look for your reply.

Good Morning Sir -
Sorry to hear that you have been ill but I hope that you are on the way to getting better. Thanks for responding to my email.
I will answer your questions below.
1) No his brother (Frank) did not die in the war. He lived until 1976 in Windsor, CT.
2) Matthew has one surviving sibling, a sister, who is now in her 90s (my great aunt). She still lives in Windsor, CT. His other siblings have all passed away and his mother died in 1964. As I recall, his dad (my Great Grandfather) died in the late 1920s -- 1928?? I will check that and verify.
3) Besides the one sister, Matthew has many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great great nephews, and great great nieces that were born before & after his death in 1945.
4) I was born in 1963 so I never met Matthew. My grandfather, Antonio Musolino, Matthew's brother, would not say much about his brother and the war. As a youngster, I use to accompany my grandfather to the cemetery to place flowers on the family graves. I would see Matthew's headstone and ask my grandfather about it. All he would say was that "he served in WWII and was killed fighting the Japanese". I later found out after my grandfather's death in 1976 that Matthew was very close to all of his siblings and that Matthew's death greatly affected the family.
5) I currently live in Enfield, Connecticut, a town located in North Central Connecticut along the Massachusetts Connecticut Border for over 40 years.
Just to let you know how I am connected to Matthew, my grandfather was Antonio Musolino -- Matthew's brother. My grandparents had a daughter, Louise Musolino who later married and became Louise Musolino Vujs. My parents had 4 children and I am the oldest of the 4. My grandfather died in 1976 and is also buried at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield, CT not far from the family plot.
I will visit the cemetery next week and get a snapshot of Matthew's headstone as someone requested on the Heritage Battalion website and provide it to this developing story.
I will contact my cousin who is the son of my great aunt. I am not sure about her current health and will ask him about all this. She may be able to handle this extraordinary & wonderful news or may not. I don't know as I have not seen her in a few years. I will contact him to discuss all of this and advise you.
Thank you very much for all that you have done for my great uncle and the family in reuniting his dog tags to us.
Scott

I have put Scott's email above for all to read.
Scott, We look forward to seeing a photo of Matthew's grave stone to help tie all this together, as you stated.
Keep us in the loop if his sister is informed about this saga, and how she takes it. If it will upset her in any way, don't inform her.
What is her name Scott?
I will deal with you Scott as this progresses.

By the way Scott, how did you find out about this Corregidor Website that contains the information about Matthew's dog tags?
We always like to know where new readers come from.

Sir -
I spoke with my cousin and Great Aunt and both can't believe this incredible news. She took the news very well and even offered to find a picture of my Great Uncle -- possibly in his uniform --- to share with all.
I am going to see her over this upcoming weekend and will show her the email trail since your first posting. I will also get to the cemetery and take the photo of the headstone. If I do get a picture of my Great Uncle, I will send that along also.
My Great Aunt's name is Connie Musolino Passaretti.
I found about this website by visiting the 503rd Honor Roll a few years back. Over the last few years, it has developed into quite a tribute to the men who served on the rock and I would check back periodically to see any new information that may have been posted.
However, last week I was searching the web and typed in my Great Uncle's name. That lead me to the Heritage Battalion website and the story about the KIA Dog Tags that were recently found. To say I was in total shock and amazement would be an understatement! After 63 years of his death, someone would find the dog tags and in relatively good condition is a miracle.
I appreciate all that has been done to reunite the dog tags to Matthew's family!
Will advise all of my visit with my Great Aunt and will send any photos that I may receive.
Best Regards, Scott Vujs
