Looks like a good time to introduce a specific thread to talk about, verify, or debunk some Corregidor myths and legends, the more you read the more you hear of them.
I get to start..............where's the gold?
" Investigation of the rear of the old engineering building, proved to be very interesting.
Following the liberation it was disclosed the Japanese had used the tunnel under Battery Morrison for a radio station.
Now a complicated tunnel system is being uncovered beneath this old Battery leading in the direction of the old Engineering building at the base of the hill.
Is it not possible that at one time this tunnel connected Morrison Hill with the Engineering building?
To the rear of the old ruined building is a vaulted area, with massive reinforced doors, and beyond this a tunnel that has collapsed and is still unopened.
Could this be the location of the special vaulted tunnel that has been referred to so many times?
This would put it on the Northeast side of Middleside rather than the southeast side and here it would have been accessible from both the dock area and the railroad.
If it( the Gold reserve) was on the south as stated, it was in a remote area and could be reached only by truck."
..........................................................................
"The gold is under Battery Way!"
"I have heard that statement many times.
True there is an old tunnel system under the old mortar Battery, but it is impossible to explore it at the present time.
Overgrown with jungle and underbrush, it is the perfect setting for snakes and animals.
Clearing it would be nearly impossible. Flame throwers, if used to clear out snakes, would set off any live ammunition that might be stored there and until some method is discovered to rid the hole of snakes, no man will enter it.
But again it is not impossible that the tunnel would lead to another area where there could be a vault."
.....................................................
Myth, legend, falsehood, conjecture, fact............
