I am in Manila at this time and if anyone is interested in purchasing a large green Mortar.......it can be bought for about $120.00 U.S.
Final price!
It's in the antique section, ( of course!) at Tiendisitas.
It started at P7,500.00 as I asked where the hell it came from and told them, you can't sell that!
The price went down to P5,000.00 as they assumed I was haggling with them.
It's about 3 ft long?, 3 and 1/2 inch diameter chamber, adjusters and gears to adjust height, a big, round flat plate under the barrel. Smaller ones under the 3 tripod legs.
No camera with me as usual.
American or Japanese?
Seguro meron tawad pa!

In the absence of a photo, my bets would be:
1) Japanese Type 94 90mm mortar (if you say that its 3 1/2 inches in diameter (close to 90mm). However, this had like a small second tube beside the main tube.
2) or the US M29A1 81mm Mortar. This had an M3 base plate which was round, however this was a more modern mortar
3) Or you have the basic US M1 81mm mortar which was widely used in WW2 but this had a square base plate underneath.
I am just guessing and welcome back to Manila pareng Tomas!!!

Thanks for the welcome back batteryboy.
There is no side tube by the main tube.
Plate under the barrel may have been replaced with the round one. It's not painted.
Lady said it came from a collection in Makati. That could mean anything.
Never saw any markings, if I get back will snap a picture and look for identifying markings.

Hi Tomas,
A picture would be great. I might drop by at tiendesitas later and see for myself.
Regards, B-boy

Never got back to Tiendisita's to get a picture after my last trip to Corregidor, ending in early March, 2012.
Got verrrrry sick and house bound for 4 days before I was to fly home. Am home now but still not completely better.
If you want to see the Mortar, or by chance need one for backup, go to the antique furniture section--- while supplies last, all sales final---- etc.
Remember----First offering price was P7,500.00 and as I continually told her in Tagalog that she couldn't sell a "Mortar" the price dropped to the FINAL price of P5,000.00, for me only of course.
First come first served.......

Hey Phantom....It would appear that your time residing in the Lone Star State has turned you into a bonafide, Texas "wheeler dealer". From a true Oklahoman's viewpoint I question if this is a good thing. lol. Cheers.

Wow Phantom, I got home from Manila on March 1st sick as a dog with some persistent respiratory bug. Just now starting to feel better, but I now seem to need 10 hours of sleep a day. Here's hoping you feel better soon.
