does anyone know what happened to battery wilson? it appears from the pictures posted in the concretebattleship.org website that sometime between june and november 2006 that either or both of the 14 inch gun barrels have either collapsed into the turret housing or were removed. could this have been the result of the multiple typhoons which struck the philippines between the end of september and november of 2006?
btw, does anyone have any very recent pictures of fort frank?

I am currently investigating the collapse of Battery Wilson's guns and will be meeting some of the authorities about it. What picture would you like to see about Fort Frank. Was just there last year and been there for the last three years.

with regards to fort frank.....anything you have. am particularly interested in scrutinizing the current state of batteries crofton, greer, and koehler, and any other structures which might remain on the island.
thanks!

Hi. I managed to sail around Fort Drum during the first week of January 2007, but could not land on the fort because of the low tide and chopping conditions. Battery Wilson's guns are both inside the turret's well - as already known. Left hand muzzle is just visible through turret barrel opening. Fort Drum January 2007 - Battery Wilson can be seen, although guns have now fallen into turret well (photo, along with other can be viewed at: i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo117/mgk0951/Fort%20Drum/IM00564.jpgOnly thing I can add is that one of the young men on the boat I hired said that the turret insides and gun mounts of Battery Wilson had been dynamited to help free scrap metal. The young man suggested the activity has caused the weakening of the turret mountings and collapse of the guns into the turrets. I did not confirm the time frame of this destruction with him, but it appeared to be ongoing. Regards mgk1951

i just read the article in the cdsg newsletter regarding the efforts underway to effect "emergency" repairs to battery wilson. a couple of questions/comments:
1. does anyone have a status report on these efforts, and is there a clear, workable plan to remount/repair battery wilson and battery marshall, if necessary?
2. does someone really have clear title to the island? i would assume that it is a ward of the philippine government, having been a former military installation. its close proximity to marine base ternate may effect the island's status. but then again, we are talking about the ultimate banana republic. anything is possible. marcos, once upon a time, wanted to milk these islands for their scrap metal value.
3. if no one has clear title, can an entity such as the corregidor foundation, cdsg, or like minded groups gain clear title? even if by a miracle, repairs can be made, how can we ensure that this doesn't happen again? considering the socio-economic state of the nation, the scrappers will be back, guaranteed.
4. what can we do to help? how do we raise awareness of this?
