Unpublished photo of MacArthur with his staff on Corregidor 1945. It's too long a long story to tell how I come to have a number of unpublished photos of MacArthur. Attachments:

Bob, thanks for these photos.
Is that a case for MacArthur's sunglasses in his left shirt pocket?

Hey Chad....You, as usual, never fail to miss much, but in this case I am thinkin' the good General never had need for a sunglass case, since he always seemed to be wearing them, maybe even in his time of slumber, lol. Cheers. Postscript....I would imagine that one of his underlings (Sutherland in all probability), in that understrength Regiment that always was at hand, had the "sunglass" responsibility well taken care of. ;D

Did you notice that in the photo of the dead Japs at his feet, one Japanese is missing his face? Sunglasses became popular after the war with all the returning pilots having them. I have no idea when Mac started wearing them. A good research project for someone however.

Could be, ol' bud. But his left shirt pocket is stuffed with something in both pics, and as far as I know he didn't smoke cigarettes, only the corncob pipe. BTW, pretty awful head wounds on one Japanese soldier and a shredded helmet, too, in the bottom photo-

Hi Bob, looks like we're both online...I was off for a moment trying to find out if DM smoked cigarettes and didn't realize you were on when I posted. Yes, what a terrible wound on that fella.

Well, that thing in his pocket looks like a checkbook to me but I'll be damned if I know where he could get one cashed on Corregidor. The helmet laying on the ground gives you an idea of why much of that Japs face is missing.
Chad, you really can't see if someone is logged in unless you're on the home page. If you're here reading and posting, you have no idea who is on the board.

Bob, it will say "member is online" underneath the member's name on every post that he has ever made, if he is in fact on line at the time. Not just on the home page- I appreciate you posting these unpublished photographs of MacArthur here. My comment above about the sunglasses case was intended to rattle okla's cage, and was not meant to trivialize your historically remarkable photos. My apologies if it came across that way...Chad

I wonder what thoughts were going through his mind as he looked upon the dead Japs. Can the men in the staff photo be identified? Does anyone know who they are and what man their name goes with? The dark object in his pocket looks to be too long and slender to be a leather notebook. I don't know if I'd want leather out and about in the humidity anyway. The next best guess would be a soft sided glass case. Next would be a pencil case of some sort, but why he'd be in possession of pencils/pens with aids along I don't know. What are the men standing in front of? Is this 1945? Why does DM have such a funky looking collar? He has an extra collar point/flap. Does the extra flap close off the top of his shirt to keep things out? None of the other fellows seem to have the same design. Bob thank you for sharing these pictures. Patty
