Although Pfc Allen was lost at Tarawa, the recovery of his body at this late date should give a modicum of hope for future identifications of those lost in the Philippines. It seems like things get done when private people get involved, vs the government working on the problem. www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=122716This is a picture of a general nature that accompanies this article. The article was posted on the Philippine-American WWII POW?MIA Research Group's Facebook page by David Metherell. It's caption reads: Marines wounded during the landing on Tarawa in November 1943 are towed out on rubber boats to larger vessels that will take them to base hospitals. Marine Corps photo
