There used to be some charred bones in one of the QM laterals, but I think they were chicken bones which a guide might use as part of the patter. There was even something fashioned that looked skull-like, but was made of clay. I destroyed it, it had no place there. No idea how THAT got there.
This is not to say there are no bones there, but cheap theatrical tricks have been played.
Some of us regulars joke about the shifting location of "suicide cliff". At one stage, it was up near Wheeler Point, but currently it is said to be in Ramsay Ravine. Why does it shift so?
Try as I could, I could get no statements from the paratroopers about any mass suicide of Japanese jumping from a cliff. (They committed suicide through other means, though.) There was no verifiable instance giving rise to the place name, though one of the guides did admit that "when I tell the Japanese the story (of suicide cliff) some of them cry and give me a bigger tip."

So the following is simply not true ? When in February 1945 the Japanese exploded the inner laterals of the top secret Navy Tunnel, they buried forever these tunnels and the secrets they contained. Booby traps, still live after all these years, have ensured that on the other side of the debris, these secrets lie inviolate with the remains of their Japanese guardians. Vehicles, munitions, supplies, five hundred or more Japanese bodies still lie there behind several thousand tons of fallen rock. corregidor.org/chs_revisit/revisit.html(Yes, it may not be true, although that was what I was told by multiple sources in the 1970's. This was even before Malinta was re-lined. I have my doubts it applies to Malinta today, though it may be true of the Navy Intercept Tunnel at Monkey Pt. Paul Whitman)

I have also noticed that suicide cliff has been moving over the years.
As to what you may find of remains of Japanese soldiers who died in caves or tunnels on Corregidor all those years ago in 1945........
I can speak from personal experience of one such instance. Imagine walking in a tunnel or cave with a very powerful flashlight, in a tunnel or cave few had entered before.
Looking at the floor of the tunnel you spot a green button, then another, and another, another, all in a row. Then a belt buckle? and copper rings from a backpack? Then 2 ft down a pair of two toed shoe soles. In the middle of the row buttons, a little off to the side, is a 30 caliber slug. No bones but what do you think these objects, in this order, could mean?
Any bones left on Corregidor may survive in an airless environment, but with all the moisture in the air and in the ground, after all these years, not much chance.
Of course there will always be the stray chicken bones for a better tip out there.

Back in '87, Al McGrew, Mike Nargaton, from Sarkies Tours, and I were lucky enough to be able to tour Ft. Hughes. While puttering around the gun pits in Craighill, Mike was kicking around in the dirt in the main tunnel and came up with several bone fragments. Whereas the Philippine Navy had had control of the island for many years, and very few of the men assigned had much interest in the old fortifications, I'm confident that those bone fragments were legitimate. With the dozens and dozens of caves that were blown closed by the troops retaking the island, there are probably hundreds, if not maybe a thousand or more, buried on the island.

Not too long ago, Tony F and I came upon bones on Caballo. So finding them isn't impossible - but it does depend on the locale, and other factors. The nature of the soil, whether it is acidic, neutral or basic is a factor. Similarly, the depth at which the body is buried tends to slow down decomposition, except for when there is groundwater - which accelerates it significantly. So, "IT ALL DEPENDS" is the answer. A word of warning for those who want to research this further. Don't spend too much time searching on "rates of decomposition of a human body" if you are planning on murdering your spouse. ISP's keep records. ?

Hey rik...Regarding the snakes present on "The Rock", it is my understanding that Fots has been on, in and, even under (if the latter was possible), Corregidor to such an enormous extent over the years that he is on a first name basis with virtually all of them.
